Jaguars graded Josh Evans as a 'day two player'

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars drafted a total of five defensive backs in the 2013 NFL Draft, including Florida Gators safety Josh Evans in the sixth round. Evans was expected to go much higher in the draft by a lot of draft analysts, including the Jaguars.

"Josh Evans, another safety from the state of Florida, was a player that both Dave and I were high on," Tony Khan told Hornsby of ProFootballFocus.com. "We both valued him as a Day 2 player (he gave up just a 35% completion rate on the best defense in the country, in the toughest conference in college football, the SEC), and we were very fortunate to be able to draft him in the sixth round."

Tony Khan joked on Twitter the day of the draft that he almost started pulling his hair out because he thought a team right in front of the Jaguars picked Evans before they had the chance, but the Jaguars landed one of their guys.

Evans isn't likely to start as a rookie right now, but he should at least participate on special teams and compete to be the third safety when the team goes into some "heavy nickel" formations.
