2013 Jacksonville Jaguars training camp preview: Special teams

USA TODAY Sports

The Jacksonville Jaguars special teams unit should still have the same usual suspects entering the 2013 season. There isn't expected to be much change are the core positions outside of the return men, which could both potentially be rookies.

The Players

Josh Scobee
Ht 6-1 Wt: 210
Age: 31 Exp: 10
Start of Camp Status: No. 1 kicker

Scobee enters his tenth season with the Jacksonville Jaguars and should once again be a reliable player for the team. Scobee is good at kickoffs, booming it when asked to, and is a fairly accurate and reliable place kicker, especially from long range.

Camp Outlook: Scobee will enter and exit as the team's starting kicker.

Bryan Anger
Ht 6-3 Wt: 202
Age: 24 Exp: 2
Start of Camp Status: No. 1 punter

The infamous third round pick of the Jaguars in the 2012 draft, you know... where they passed on Russell Wilson? Now that that joke is out of the way, Anger had an up and down rookie campaign, but definitely showed he can boom the football and get hangtime, he just needs to do it on a more consistent basis.

Camp Outlook: Anger should have no issue remaining the Jaguars punter.

Ken Parish
Ht 6-2 Wt: 210
Age: 29 Exp: 1
Start of Camp Status: Backup punter

The Jaguars signed Parish in the offseason for the need of giving Anger a break during camp as the team figures out their returners and coverages on special teams.

Camp Outlook: Parish may not make it out of training camp for the Jaguars.

Jeremy Cain
Ht 6-1 Wt: 245
Age: 33 Exp: 7
Start of Camp Status: No. 1 long snapper

Cain returns to camp as the Jaguars long snapper and will likely remain there through training camp.

Camp Outlook: Cain should once again be the team's long snapper for the season.

Carson Tinker
Ht 6-0 Wt: 233
Age: 23 Exp: R
Start of Camp Status: Backup long snapper

Tinker was signed as an undrafted free agent to push Cain for the long snapper position.

Camp Outlook: It's unlikely Tinker will push Cain out of his starting job, but Cain's veteran minimum is climbing each year. The Jaguars aren't in any close to the cap situations however.
