Did the Jacksonville Jaguars improve at cornerback in 2013?

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback position is one of the most revamped positions on the 2013 roster. Dave Caldwell and company replaced all but two players at the position, bringing back just Kevin Rutland and Mike Harris from the 2012 squad. Veteran Rashean Mathis was allowed to walk and will likely soon retire, while Derek Cox signed a four-year deal with the San Diego Chargers.

2012 Cornerbacks Derek Cox, Rashean Mathis, Aaron Ross, Kevin Rutland, William Middleton, Mike Harris
2013 Cornerbacks Alan Ball, Dwayne Gratz, Jeremy Harris, Marcus Trufant, Mike Harris, Demetrius McCray, Lionel Smith, Kevin Rutland

The team spent three draft picks on the cornerback position, including bringing in veterans Alan Ball and Marcus Trufant. The rest of the squad are younger players who will be fighting for position and likely be starting a rookie in Dwayne Gratz.

Advantage: I actually give the advantage to the 2013 group on the fact that it's a bit unknown. Aaron Ross in 2012 was a complete disaster, Mathis barely played, and Cox was up and down during the season once again with inconsistent play. The team brought back one of the few bright spots in Mike Harris and someone like Gratz should slot in nicely as a rookie.
