Marcedes Lewis speaks to Jaguars offense after poor day

The Jaguars offense has had back-to-back poor showings in practice and tight end Marcedes Lewis spoke to the team on Tuesday.

The Jacksonville Jaguars offense has been a work in progress, to put it mildly, and the team apparently followed up an abysmal day of practice on Monday with another rough day for the offense on Tuesday. After practice, veteran tight end Marcedes Lewis called the offense together and spoke to the team.

"We've been building and getting better since April and we came out today and didn't get better, plain and simple," Lewis told the team, via Ryan O'Halloran of The Florida Times-Union. "That wasn't good enough. That's not acceptable. In years past, it may have been acceptable and we may have come into the locker room without even mentioning what happened. But mediocrity can't be accepted."

"Sometimes you can be sluggish and get your second wind during a practice and then complete passes and stay on your blocks. But for one reason or another, that didn't happen," Lewis continued. "We just have to really pay attention to the details, take constructive criticism and continue to get better," he said. "We can't regress; we don't have time to regress."

The meeting was impromptu that Lewis called together, as head coach Gus Bradley wasn't even aware it happened until he was informed by the media post-practice.

This isn't the first time Lewis has tried to rally the team after some poor performances by the offense, as he's shown in the past he tries to be a leader for his teammates. I'm not sure his speech will effect much overall, but it's good to see some players recognizing where there is a problem and calling for everyone to step up their game.

Queue the always terrible jokes about Lewis dropping passes.
