The final preseason game is over with and the Jacksonville Jaguars need to get 22 players to get to the 53-man roster limit by Saturday afternoon. Most of the cuts for the Jaguars should be pretty easy, but there could easily be some "surprise" cuts as well.
I believe the Jaguars will release a good chunk of the players they intend to cut by Friday afternoon, but there could be about five or six players they wait to cut until Saturday, as teams like to call around the league looking for player-for-player trades or conditional draft picks.
6:07 PM: The Jaguars announced the release of 21 players on Friday night, including quarterbacks Mike Kafka and Matt Scott.
6:01 PM: The Jaguars have informed wide receiver Toney Clemons of his release, a source tells Big Cat Country.
5:33 PM: Hold tight, everyone. Mark Long of the Associated Press reports that the Jaguars plan to make and announce all 22 of their roster cuts tonight. Mike Kafka is one, but there will be another 21 before the end of the night. Hold on to your hats.
3:28 PM: It sounds as if quarterback Mike Kafka was informed of his release on Friday, as the fourth-year passer took to Twitter to thank the Jaguars for the opportunity:
Thanks @jaguars for the opportunity! I'm grateful for the support of my teammates fans and community! Looking forward to what comes next!— Mike Kafka (@mikekafka3) August 30, 2013
1:25 PM: Jaguars quarterback Blaine Gabbert, who is still trying to work his way back from a fractured thumb suffered in the second preseason game, is squeezing the ball now, according to Mark Long. Gabbert could return to practice this week, but Gus Bradley told the media that they will hold him out of the team's Week 1 game against the Kansas City Chiefs, if necessary.
12:07 PM: Our own Adam Stites is reporting the Jaguars are trying to trade second-year defensive end Andre Branch, who's been a massive disappointment so far in the LEO end position. No word on what they're looking for, probably anything they can get, but if they can't trade him he'll stick around for now.
11:21 AM: Went to get some dog food and no one was cut. The Bengals are reportedly trying to trade DE/LB Dontay Moch however. Interested if the Jaguars have any interest at all. He's a fast athlete at the position and has played with his hand on the ground, but is he any different than Andre Branch?
10:01 AM: Gus Bradley has a press conference scheduled for 1 p.m. ET, so I would expect to see some cuts come out before them. Maybe they'll be generous and just release them all at once so I can go do some things today.

9:14 AM: On Thursday I picked five players I thought were on the roster bubble. I reviewed how they performed in the game here. Some of them... might have gotten themselves cut.
8:52 AM: I have coffee, three eggs, and bacon. Let's do this. Here's my Jaguars 53-man roster prediction this morning.
