Jaguars claim D.J. Williams on waivers

The Jaguars reportedly claimed former Green Bay Packers tight end D.J. Williams on Sunday.

The Jacksonville Jaguars were unsurprisingly active in waivers on Sunday, claiming former Green Bay Packers tight end D.J. Williams, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.

Williams, 24, was a fifth-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft and played in 26 of 32 possible games during his first two seasons with the Packers. He tallied just nine receptions for 70 yards in two seasons though, before he was released in final cuts on Saturday.

In the 2013 preseason, Williams accumulated seven receptions for 46 yards, but ultimately struggled to find a rhythm in the Green Bay offense.

At 6'2, 245 pounds with a 4.59 40-yard dash time, Williams is an athletic contrast to the much taller Marcedes Lewis and may fit in better in the "move tight end" role. The addition of Williams could also mean the end of the road for Brett Brackett, as the team is unlikely to keep four players at the position.
