Did you forget the Jaguars were rebuilding?

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Jaguars are 0-2 and look awful, but this isn't a huge surprise to people who realized what's going on with the franchise.

The Jacksonville Jaguars were dominated once again, this time in a 19-9 defeat against the Oakland Raiders in a game not nearly as close as the scoreline. Until a Darren McFadden fumble late in the fourth quarter, the Jaguars offensive output was actually on pace to produce less total yards that the Jaguars did against the Chiefs.

Against the Chiefs, the Jaguars had 178 total yards.

The Jaguars easily eclipsed that mark in the final five minutes when the Raiders took their foot off the gas.

The Jaguars once again looked like an awful football team that lacks talent, because that's what they are.

I predicted the Jaguars being 5-11 in my season preview, but I'm not really shocked they look awful. If you've been paying attention to what's going on, you shouldn't be either.

The Jaguars are rebuilding. Yes, again.

To put it in better terms, this isn't rebuilding, it's new construction.

Yes, half the roster is brand new with "Dave Caldwell players", but most of them are street free agents or undrafted rookies playing in place of the Gene Smith players Caldwell gutted. That's how bad of shape the roster in. These guys were viable replacements over the other players.

If you were expecting it all to be magically fixed in a single season, especially after the team made no changes at the quarterback position, you've been in a fantasy land.

This is the team Gene Smith built.

It's the team Caldwell is burning down and building a new foundation.

This season isn't going to be pretty. We tried to warn you.

Questioning if Caldwell, Bradley, Jedd Fisch, etc. were the right hires after two weeks is completely nonsensical and hyper-reactionary. None of them are getting fired after a single season. Bradley and Caldwell are going to be here for at least three seasons.

Put down the pitchforks. This is still Gene Smith's oil spill they're trying to clean up.

Watch the young players develop. Enjoy yourself. That's all you can do right now.
