2014 NFL Mock Draft: Jaguars take Teddy Bridgewater

Jamie Rhodes-USA TODAY Sports

Dane Brugler's mock draft is really early and likely inaccurate, but it might actually have some validity for the Jaguars.

Typically Week 3 of the regular season is far too early to accurately predict the NFL Draft still over seven months in the future, but for the Jacksonville Jaguars it really might not be. Yes, it's still premature to make any sort of assumption that the Jaguars will finish with the NFL's worst record, but after undoubtedly looking like the worst team in the league in Week 1 and 2, bracing for the idea that they will finish with the top pick in the 2014 NFL Draft is only logical.

On Tuesday, Dane Brugler of CBS Sports released an extremely early mock draft that had the Jaguars picking with the first pick:

Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Louisville: The prior regime in Jacksonville traded into the top-10 of the 2011 NFL Draft for Blaine Gabbert, but if the Jaguars are again stuck with a top-five pick next May, it's hard to believe they would pass up a quarterback here. Bridgewater tests off the charts in several categories, including toughness, intelligence and poise and has the talent to step in from day one and be "the guy" in Jacksonville.

Bridgewater is going to be an important name to remember in the coming months as the Louisville quarterback has seemingly separated him from the other quarterbacks in the pack and looks as though he's close to a sure thing for the No. 1 overall pick if he chooses to forego his senior season.

At this point, a name that Jaguars fans should probably stop holding on to is South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. While an all-world talent, Clowney simply isn't a quarterback and that essentially rules him out as a possibility for Jacksonville if they are bad enough to earn a top five pick.

In Brugler's mock draft, Clowney is the fourth player selected after UCLA quarterback Brett Hundley and Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota are slated to go second and third, respectively.
