Josh Freeman trade rumors: Jaguars shouldn't be interested

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Josh Freeman trade rumors are going to pick up again, but the Jacksonville Jaguars shouldn't and likely won't be interested.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have benched starting quarterback Josh Freeman in favor of third-round pick Mike Glennonaccording to a report by Adam Schefter. It was reported a few weeks back that Freeman could ask for a  trade due to his relationship with Bucs head coach Greg Schiano, which naturally started having him linked with teams in need of a quarterback, including the Jacksonville Jaguars.

It's likely that talk is going to jump start once again and I've already seen on Twitter people suggesting the Jaguars should be interested, but when you look at the situation it's clear that they shouldn't be.

It's not because Blaine Gabbert or Chad Henne are better, it's because trading for Freeman doesn't really help you.

Freeman is a $6.942 million cap hit right now and his contract expires after the season. So in essence, you're renting a quarterback who was just benched in favor of a third-round pick for 10 games, at the most.

Not only that, but the Jaguars right now are staring at possibly the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft and their choice of quarterback if Gabbert is once again a failure. Renting Freeman for 10 games could completely de-rail that and leave you on the outside looking in, with Freeman walking at the end of the season.

Not only all of that, but watching Gus Bradley's press conference on Monday he seems pretty set that Gabbert is the starting quarterback, right now.
