Is it so far fetched that Houston will pass on a QB and draft Clowney?
Their defensive could change. Their new Head Coach stated he was not tied down to the 3-4 scheme. Clowney would give them options on how they play their front 7. If they are in a win now mentality and want to make a run with the veterans on their team they may pass on a young QB. I know Matt Schaub was horrible this season, but last year he threw for over 4,000 yards. Who thought their biggest need was a QB entering this season?
Schaub was a top 10 QB last year just looking at stats. Players have bad seasons. Flacco and Eli had bad seasons this year too. The Texans could win with the team they have.
If they put Clowney and JJ Watt together their defense would dominate the line of scrimmage. Their defense is already good, but a Watt - Clowney combo would make them dangerous. They could draft a QB in the second round and groom him for a year or two. This team could win with Schaub at QB, and there will be decent options at QB in the second round and later.
Boyd, Fales, McCarron, Mettenberger, Garoppolo, Murray. They could add Clowney and an OT in round 1 and 2. Then grab a QB in the 3rd to groom as well. I think Clowney and an OT gives Houston a better chance to win now than a rookie QB.
What do you guys think?
