Michael Bennett re-signs with Seahawks

Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

Another pass rusher is off the market as the Seattle Seahawks have re-signed Michael Bennett.

The Jacksonville Jaguars will have to look elsewhere in free agency, as the Seattle Seahawks have re-signed veteran free agent defensive lineman Michael Bennett to a new deal. Reportedly his deal is worth four years, $28.5 million with $16 million guaranteed, further setting the market for defensive ends.Coming off a fantastic season with the Seattle Seahawks and winning the Super Bowl, many expected Bennett to stay in Seattle, and despite plenty of suitors he did.

Bennett, 28, signed with the Seahawks on a one-year prove it contract in 2013 and he proved quite a bit. He led the Seahawks in sacks, quarterback hits and hurries as well as being the second highest graded player on their defense overall, according to Pro Football Focus.

Bennett played at the LEO end, inside on passing downs and at the five-technique role for the Seahawks which is likely why he appealed to the Jaguars so much. Bennett isn't the pure LEO type pass rusher, but his versatility to rush the passer from all over the line is what made him valuable.
