There is a recent report that the Tampa Bay Bucs are shopping Darrelle Revis. In that same report it states that the team would be willing to outright release Revis to avoid a roster bonus and his high 2014 salary if a trade could not be completed. The reasoning behind this move is that people inside the organization do not want to pay Revis $16 million this upcoming season. In addition to the idea that Revis is not best suited for Lovie Smith's Cover 2 Heavy Defense.
Now before everyone jumps at me, I am not suggesting we attempt to trade for the former Pro Bowler; but what if he becomes available on the open market? In my humble opinion, I think Revis is well-suited for Gus Bradley's defense being that he thrives in Man Coverage. Revis, who is now 28, would still be someone I think Gus and Dave would be interested in barring an astronomical price on the open market. He still has the skills to be an elite corner, and pairing him with Dwayne Gratz would wipe the cornerback position off our list of needs for the foreseeable future.
I'm sure if he did become available there would be multiple teams interested in him, but since free agency is about to kick off in a few hours, I thought this would be an interesting scenario for discussion.
