Jaguars re-sign Will Blackmon

The Jacksonville Jaguars have brought back veteran corner Will Blackmon.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have re-signed veteran cornerback Will Blackmon, according general manager Dave Caldwell on a conference call on Tuesday afternoon. The Jaguars signed Blackmon last offseason late in training camp after he was released by the Seattle Seahawks and he immediately made an impact in his first preseason appearance.

Blackmon, 29, began the season as one of the Jaguars nickel corners but was thrust into the starting lineup after some injuries and actually did a fantastic job on the outside starting opposite Alan Ball. Blackmon ended the 2013 season playing over 600 snaps and with the second highest overall grade on the defense per Pro Football Focus.

Blackmon also had some of the biggest plays for the Jaguars defense last season, including a play to seal the team's first win of the season against the Tennessee Titans with a sack, strip, fumble recovery and touchdown.

While Blackmon is older than a rebuilding team would like, he's missed quite a few games due to injuries in the past so the wear and tear isn't necessarily there. Blackmon fits the Jaguars defensive scheme both as a slot corner and on the outside, giving them dual purpose depth.
