Sigh... Allow me to pull this dagger out of my side real fast, as I attempt to congradulate you through the rain. WHY IS IT ONLY RAINING ON MY FACE.
Let me make this quite plain; Adrian Peterson is great. Perhaps he will be one of the greatest, and yet here I stand, extremely saddened to see his backup leave. This is not simply because he was a fan favorite or because I enjoyed watching him in college, it's because of his potential to become an excellent starting RB. Many Viking fans (though certainly not the majority), including myself and two of the moderators over at the Daily Norseman, were even confident enough in Gerhart's abilities to be in favor of trading Peterson and letting Gerhart be the main back in Minnesota.
This is because how consistent Gerhart has been over the past several years with us. Despite Gerhart being severely underutilized, he always managed to help the team out and has NEVER dissappointed when afforded the opportunity to start or get a lump of releif carries. Gerhart not only has the ability to be a capable starter (which is what most places around the net are saying), he has the ability to be a star. Toby doesn't care if you are in front of him in perfect tackling form, he is a true power back who has learned how to mow down defenders and continue moving forward from one of the best to ever play the game and he is an excellent pass catcher and pass protector.
I think Gerhart can come in and immediately be a three down back capable of rushing the ball 270 times a season and averaging 4.5+ yards a carry. This is a tremendous signing of a young player ready to contribute heavily from day one AND he came cheap. I think he will have a fine career in Jacksonville. I might even swing by to see him in action in the future, being that I live in Panama City.
Good luck, and please don't draft a first round QB, we're hurting just as bad at the position as you ; )
