Chris Clemons to sign with the Jaguars

The Jaguars have added another former Seahawk defender, adding defensive end Chris Clemons.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed veteran free agent defensive end Chris Clemons, according to a report by Albert Breer. Clemons to the Jaguars was one of the most obvious moves in free agency after he was released in a salary cap move by the Seattle Seahawks.

Field Gulls on Clemons release:

Clemons came to the Seahawks in 2010 along with a fourth round pick in exchange for Darryl Tapp. It was a move that was mostly looked at with cynicism -- Clemons was a virtual unknown and part-time role player for the Eagles at the time, but it's a move that obviously worked out beautifully. Clemons had 11+ sacks in each of 2010, 2011, and 2012, and while he only notched 4.5 in 2013 following a torn ACL, he came on strong at the end of the year and in the Super Bowl. He ends his Seahawks tenure as a Super Bowl Champion and fan favorite, and he will be missed.

Clemons, the original LEO, is 32 years old and doesn't fit the typical free agency mold you want to go after, but he seems to still have plenty of gas in the tank even coming off a torn ACL in 2012. Clemons had just 4.5 sacks last season, but he was also in a platoon of pass rushers where the Seahawks sent wave after wave of player after the quarterback.

Originally joining the Seahawks in 2010 in a trade from the Philadelphia Eagles, Clemons played sparingly before that before exploding with 11 sacks in his first three seasons in Seattle. In his 10 year NFL career Clemons has 58 total sacks. It makes perfect sense he'd reunite with head coach Gus Bradley in Jacksonville.

In addition to signing Chris Clemons, according to Ryan O'Halloran, the Jaguars have agreed to terms with former Pittsburg Steeler DT Ziggy Hood.

Ziggy Hood was originally drafted at number 32 overall by the Steelers after playing his college ball at the University of Missouri. Ziggy will most likely provided depth behind Sen'Derrick Marks.
