Free Agency almost certainly makes sure we draft a QB with the 3rd overall pick, being either Johnny Manziel or Teddy Bridgewater. The DLine was addressed with Hood, Clemons, and Bryant being signed with Babin being brought back. In all, Babin, Watson, Hood, Alualu, Marks, Clemons, Bryant, and Davis make up a formitable defensive line/pass rush rotation that warrants us to go elsewhere with the first pick.
Center was not and probably will not be addressed in FA due to the only options available being either too expensive or too old for a rebuilding effort. Center will most certainly be our 2nd round pick with Martin of USC and Richburg of Colorado St being available. 2nd round is too high for a pass rusher given what we did in FA. Starters are drafted in the first 3 rounds or so.
Wr is seen as a need by the Jags but not a glaring need. Sanders was brought in for a visit but was not aggresively sought out which proves the Jags know this WR class is deep. That shows me that WR will be a position drafted but not too early. 4th round sounds about right.
It was much assumed that RB would be an early pick for us but Gearhart changes that. In fact, RB might now not be drafted at all. We have our starter and quality depth. UDFA is more likely.
By bringing in Thurmond, it shows we need a quality CB. One most likely can be obtained in round 3. They dont have to start now, but Blackmon and Ball arent the youngest or talented players in the NFL either and will need to be replaced in the near future.
The only position that changes this draft is Guard. We now have Beadles and one spot and I wonder if Bradfield can play the other spot? If not, a rookie will be brought in to compete with the others.
All in all a good strategy in place. I think trading Pous for yet another pick would do us good. He is getting up there in age, we would save a good amount on his contract, and there are good LBs that could fill his role. Other than him, the veterans can be retained. Really wanted to make a splash in FA but this smart ripple is good enough for me
