Jaguars hoping Toby Gerhart can be 'bell cow' running back

When asked if Toby Gerhart would be the Jaguars feature back, head coach Gus Bradley expressed that it was the plan.

The Jacksonville Jaguars signed free agent running back Toby Gerhart to a three-year deal in free agency, a deal which points to him being the feature running back for the Jaguars going forward. When asked if Gerhart was expected to be the team's "bell cow" running back going forward, Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley agreed that was the hope.

Gerhart, 27, hasn't had much work in the NFL since the Minnesota Vikings picked him in the second-round of the draft. That was due to the fact he was buried behind Adrian Peterson more than anything, arguably the best back in the league the past five years.

With the team letting long standing back Maurice Jones-Drew hit the open market, appearing to be ready to move on, they definitely need someone who can handle the majority of the snaps at running back. It appears Gerhart is going to be the plan for that going forward, but I would also expect them to work in Jordan Todman, Denard Robinson and possibly even a mid-round rookie.
