Thanks for taking a look guys. This is my first mock. I appreciate any feedback.
The Jaguars really upgraded their defense during this years free agent period. The 2014 draft class appears to be incredibly deep with offensive talent. For these reasons, I could see the Jaguars grabbing the best available defensive player with the third overall pick and using many of their remaining picks to upgrade a mediocre offense.
ROUND 1/PICK 3
- Khalil Mack OLB Buffalo
With Clowney off the board, the Jags opt for the best defensive player available. Pairing Mack with the incoming free agent crop immediately improves the defense from last seasons squad and provides Gus with a bevy of capable pass rushers.
ROUND 2/ PICK 7
- Xavier Su's-Filo OG UCLA
With the defense solidified, the Jags will turn their attention to the deep group of offensive talent. Xavier is a strong athletic guard that could slide to the Jags at the 39th pick. He has the talent to start from day one and fills one of the two remaining holes in our O line.
ROUND 3/ PICK 6
- Marcus Martin OC USC
Once again the Jags look to plug a hole in the offensive line as they choose one of the top centers in the draft. Martin is a big strong center that excels in the run game and should develop into a long term answer at center.
ROUND 4/ PICK 5
- Zach Mettenberger QB LSU
I know everyone is thinking that Mettenberger won't last into the 4th round, but I still believe he will. Last year we saw QB's falling down draft boards for a variety of reasons, with teams seeming less likely to spend an early pick on one of the positions with the greatest chance to bust. I believe that this trend continues this year as teams focus on a strong draft class at most other positions.
ROUND 4/ PICK 14
- Martavis Bryant WR Clemson
At 6'4", Bryant represents the big, strong red zone target that that the Jaguars have been lacking. Bryant lasts into the 4th due to concerns about his hands and route running ability.
ROUND 5/ PICK 4
- Andre Williams RB BC
Williams is never going to be the fastest guy on the field, but what he will be is a bruiser that can move the pile after first contact and pick up the tough yard.
ROUND 5/ PICK 10
- Aaron Murray QB UGA
See Zach Mettenberger
The remaining picks would be used to maneuver around the draft board or take the BPA.
