Just for fun, a 49ers trade

49ers have a boatload of draft picks this year. They have six picks in the top 100 (30, 56, 61, 77, 94 and 100 (comp pick)). They also have a 4th, 5th, no 6th (thanks for taking Gabbert!) and 3 7th’s. If I am the Jags, is there a package the 49ers could off that I would take?

To figure out what would be a likely offer, I did some research on the draft day trades since 2011 (1st year of rookie wage scale). I am going to omit the players and teams and just look at the draft picks. I only looked at trades involving picks near 3 and 30.

(1) 2011—6 traded for 27, 59, 124 and next year 1st and 4th.

(2) 2013—3 traded for 12 and 42

(3) 2013—18 traded for 31 and 74

(4) 2013—22 and ’15 7th traded for 30, 92, 198

Using trades 2 and 3, from 3rd to 31 netted picks 12, 31, 42, 74. The 49ers would need to find a way to match the value for 12 and 42. Keeping trade 1 in mind, I think a trade would look something like this:

3, 70 and a 5th round pick traded for 30, 56, 61, 77 and next years 1st and 3rd.

Jags would then have picks 30, 39, 56, 61, 77, 105, 114 through the 4th round on top of adding a 1st and 3rd to next years picks. 49ers would be left with 3, 70, 94, 100.

What hurts the 49ers in my eyes is that all of their picks are late in rounds. That’s why I swapped pick 70 with pick 61. Different rounds, but only a 9 spot difference.

Would missing out on an elite talent (Mack, Watkins) be worth this trade? That’s up for discussion!
