The majority of die hard Jaguar fans that I have talked to are thrilled with the Job our new GM is doing. It is pretty easy to see the difference in this new management and owner. Past management had a stand offish relationship with the fans and media, whereas the new regime has been very candid and forthright with their plans and goals for this franchise. It is truly a breath of fresh air.
Shad Khan has made it very clear he wants to expand the Jaguars brand internationally. Doing so brings recognition to the team and the city of Jacksonville. Agreeing to play one home game a year in London (A move I initially questioned) has been a windfall for the teams coffers in a very lean time. Khan understood this rebuild would involve a purge of our roster and a lack of wins for the team. The London games help make the rebuild financially possible by allowing Khan to buy out unsold tickets to prevent blackouts and make stadium upgrades. The stadium upgrades he is making will remove some of the dreaded tarps that the national media loves to point out. Shad Khan has the fans and cities interest in heart while we go through our rebuild.
David Caldwell’s plan has been met with mixed emotions. While it’s hard to watch the purge of some of our better players MJD, D. Smith, Monroe, etc. It’s unfortunately a necessary evil. All teams have to eventually move on. (I.E. Manning leaving Indy). Having to juggle player contacts and the salary cap makes the process all that much more difficult. Caldwell is trying to build a team that will not only be competitive, but able to compete yearly for the division title. He is building a team with youth and depth to accomplish this. His plan is the same plan being used by the better teams in this league.
Gus Bradley is one of the most infectious personalities I have ever met. Talking with him makes me want to put on some pads and hit someone. I can see why players want to play for him. His personality has and will be a huge asset in landing free agents.
It has been very hard to remain a loyal Jaguar fan the last 10-12 years. Past management has left many of us bitter and ever suspicious of being misled. I say it is time to lower our guard and have faith that this new regime wants to and will bring us a winning team that we can be proud of. Kick back drink some teal kool-aid and enjoy the ride.
