After reading this list and really thinking, I realized now in our 20th year of play, that there are some Jaguars who do deserve at least to be on the Ballot for Canton. I wondered why there was not even any mention of a Jaguar player in the article (except technically Torry Holt). In the greater view though, it is a shame that barely five Jaguars right now would even remotely bear thought for Canton and one is our original coach.
SO thinking about that....What five Jaguars would deserve at least a chance at Canton?
1. Fred Taylor
Despite some problems with injury in his early career and a rather anti-climatic finish with the Patriots, Taylor was one of the very best at the position for at least six or seven seasons. He has more than 11500 yards rushing, is the 15th leading yards rushing all-time and most likely will be remembered as the greatest Jaguar running back and an integral part of the 1999 AFC runner-ups and holds the longest NFL Playoff run record still of 90yds. He is eligible in 2016
Chance? 60-65%
2. Jimmy Smith
The 18th leading receiving yards (he will be passed very soon by Steve Smith), he was the Jaguars receiving corps from the salary-cap loss of Keenan McCardell till his retirement in 2006.By sheer numbers it seems unlikely though, except maybe as a seniors canidate much further along, considering who's ahead of him on the list and hasn't yet made it. The substance and crime issues might also cloud it, and his being a Jaguar.
30-40%, maybe 50% as a seniors
3. McCardell
Number 27 all-time, about 900 yards shy of Smith, his chance might be even less considering he is slipping down the list thanks to other active players. He did play for the Redskins and is 13th overall catches wise (Wikipedia) which might help, along with his two Super Bowl rings.
30-35%, maybe 55-60% as a Seniors
4. Boselli
One of the most dominant LTs over the late 1990s, he apparently has been listed as a HOF nominee since 2009. He played for such a short period comparatively, to his 3 all-pro and college fb HOF membership, I doubt he will make it anytime soon if at all which is a great shame.
20%, 65-70% seniors
5. Coughlin
We all know his good, pulling in rings with the Giants, he is an excellent coach. Considering which coaches have rings and still didn't make it in....
10%, 35-45% Seniors
