To Blake or not to Blake, that is the question.

Its been three long years and we still dont have a franchise signal caller. So why wait until the Draft concludes to decide on the 5th year option on Blake Bortles' rookie contract? Well, for starters, we dont know that the Jags won't Draft his replacement in the first or second rounds. A trade back could occur, they could take one at 4th overall or trade back into the first round if a quarterback they covet falls.

My thinking is that they want to see who is available at 4 after the first three picks are in and if the quarterback they like is there, maybe they grab him and forgo Bortles as the future. Tom may have seen the win-loss record, league leading turnover number and pick sixes to go along with his terrible throwing mechanics and decision-making and told Caldwell he has one shot with him and if he flops, Dave goes with him to the unemployment line. Getting a rookie quarterback would be wise in that you have someone who can start while the rookie acclimates and learns the many nuances of being a pro on such a big stage.

The Jaguars have a better support system in place now, which theoretically SHOULD help Bortles to rebound, but only time will tell. He may just end up being another lost cause like his predecessor Blaine Gabbert. My hope is he learns how to throw the ball with an actual spiral and improves his ability to go through his progressions more efficiently. I personally couldn't take another season of 16-plus interceptions again.

Honestly, he should go back and watch game film on David Garrard's 2007 season and model himself after a guy who was clutch when it mattered and took care of the ball. The excuse basket is empty now, for Blake and this team. They have enough talent across the board to rival just about any team in the league. So to be clear, I would wait until the draft to decide picking up or declining the 5th year option for Blake Bortles, would you? Why or why not?
