Round 1, Pick 4: LDE Solomon Thomas (Stanford)
CBS Prospect Ranking: 2nd overall, 2nd DE
I’d be happy with Jonathon Allen, but Thomas is a more exciting, higher ceiling pick. His 3-cone (6.95 s) and 20-yard shuttle (4.28 s) times would be good numbers for a 250 lb. dedicated pass rusher, and Thomas weighs 270 lb. That combination of size and agility is rare.
Round 2, Pick 35: OG Dan Feeney (Indiana)
CBS Prospect Ranking: 49th overall, 2nd OG
Plug-and-play starter that should immediately fix the hole we have in the interior o-line.
Round 3, Pick 68: CB Sidney Jones (Washington)
CBS Prospect Ranking: 68th overall, 12th CB
Everyone knows we need some CB depth.
That’s what makes Jones such a good fit for the Jags. He’s one of the most talented corners in the draft, but he won’t be ready to play for a while due to his Pro Day ACL tear. Anyone looking for an immediate starter will be turned off by that. With Ramsey and Bouye as our starting CB duo, we don’t need an immediate starter, so we can get away with a steal here.
Round 4, Pick 110: TE George Kittle (Iowa)
CBS Prospect Ranking: 152nd overall, 9th TE
Strong blocker, and the kid can catch, too.
Round 5, Pick 148: RB James Conner (Pittsburgh)
CBS Prospect Ranking: 162nd overall, 15th RB
Conner would fit the smashmouth, old-school-is-new-again Coughlin era just fine. He’s slower than most of the backs in this year’s draft, but he’s also one of the hardest to tackle.
