Randy Moss and Terrell Owens Want To Play
Randy Moss who turned 35 years old today said today that he is not retired and would like to play football next season. Moss has been out of the league for a year has tossed his name in the hat of free agent WRs. Mosses production had started declining. Moss had 98 receptions for 1493 yards, and 23 TDs in 2007, but has been on the decline since 2007. Moss has a history of giving up on plays and not always playing full speed when he is not happy.
Terrell Owens is another aged WR looking to play next year. Owens unlike Moss had ACL surgery on his knee last year. Owens is 38 years old making him 3 years older than Moss. Owens has been labeled a trouble maker in the locker room, but has always played hard when on the field. Like Moss Owens productivity has declined since 2007, but had a good year in 2010 with the Bengals with 72 receptions for 983 yards, and 9 TDs. In 2007 Owens had 81 receptions for 1,355 yards, and 15 TDs.

The thought is that Moss wants to play for a contender and Owens just wants to play. Will anyone take a chance on either of these guys? Would you as a Jaguar fan want either of these guys on your team as a number 2 or number 3 WR?
Do The Jags Draft a WR in the 1st Round?
I’m not doing a mock draft until after free agency. However, I will still talk about who the Jags should try to draft in the 1st round. The major needs of the Jaguars are WR, DE, DB, and OL. Today, I’m taking a look at some of the top WR prospects in this year’s draft. These are the guys that the talking heads are predicting as possible 1st round picks. With the combine next month some of these guys may move up, or down and out of the first round.
Let’s say the Jaguars do not land a true number one WR in free agency and decide to draft a WR. Keep in mind if the Jags have not signed a big time WR in free agency, they should have addressed DE, OL, and CB in free agency. Right?
Justin Blackmon (Oklahoma State) Blackmon appears to be the only sure fire 1st round can’t miss at WR. Blackmon has been listed as high as 2nd pick and as low as the 6th pick in the draft. Blackmon has good size and speed. He played in a spread offense so he will need to show terms that he can run NFL route.
Kendall Wright (Baylor) Wright is a smaller WR with speed to stretch the field. Wright can be explosive after the catch, but needs to work on his route running. He is a smaller guy so blocking for the run is something he will need to improve on
Alshon Jeffery (South Carolina) Jeffery is a big physical WR with great hands. There is concern about his speed and route running. Many believe he is a 4.7 40 guy, which is too slow for the NFL. I am interesting to see what he runs in the 40. Jeffery is a long strider and takes time to get to top speed. Jeffery disappeared at times against the top CBs in the SEC. Jeffery is a bit raw and a high risk high reward WR.
Michael Floyd (Notre Dame) Floyd is a big physical WR with good hands, but is not explosive. Floyd like Jeffery is a long strider that takes time to get to full speed. Uses his big frame to create separation, but needs to improve his route running. Floyd comes with baggage being arrested a few times on alcohol related charges.
Mohamed Sanu (Rutgers) Sanu has great hands and good size. He is a strong WR with a nice burst. Sanu is a nice route runner and finds ways to get open. Sanu’s straight line speed is not great. Sanu is another guy that NFL teams will want to clock his true 40 time.
These are the WRs that could be 1st round picks, but there is a drop off after Blackmon. Once Blackmon is gone Wright and Floyd look like the next two to go in the draft. As of now the 7th pick looks too high to draft Floyd or Wright. Jeffery and Sanu could drop to the 2nd round and there are still other good WR in the draft without a 1st round grade. As a fan I am wanting the Jags find their number one WR in free agency. WR do take time to develop so a young guy may take a year of two to develop. Having a good veteran WR to help develop a young WR would be good.
Why the Jaguars need to begin considering life without Maurice Jones-Drew
When the Jaguars drafted Jones-Drew in the 2006 NFL draft, a lot of people assumed that he would simply be a return guy, and would make a great third down running back. Fred Taylor was still in his prime, but obviously was slowing down. No one considered that Jones-Drew could come in and dominate in this league the way he has been doing for the past few years. The reason why he was taken in the 2nd round, and not before Reggie Bush, Laurence Maroney, DeAngelo Williams, Joseph Addai, and even Lendale White, was because he was "too short", "too small" of a running back to do anything in this league. Even the Jacksonville Jaguars passed on Maurice Jones-Drew in order to take Marcedes Lewis in the first round. Anyway, enough about how he got here because everyone knows that, let's examine why the Jaguars need to start thinking about life after Maurice Jones-Drew.

Think we can get him? Routt is out in OAK:
Per Adam Schefler,
"the Raiders have announced that they have cut CB Stanford Routt, who last year signed a five-year, $54.5 million contract that included $20 million guaranteed."

Wide Receivers in Free Agency...Who do the Jags Go After?
It is vital that the Gene Smith add impact players around Gabbert. The wide receiving core was mediocre at best. Wide Receiver is a position that the Jaguars will need to address in free agency. With the 7th overall pick in the draft the Jaguars will not have a chance to draft Justin Blackmon and 7 is too high for the other wide receivers in the draft. There are several free agent wide receivers that can help the Jaguars.
Here’s a list of the top potential wide receiver free agents that I can see the Jaguars pursuing.
- DeSean Jackson (PHI) The Eagles will not be bringing back Jackson. Having a down year may have made him a little more affordable. One of the fastest WRs in the NFL he can stretch any defense.
- Dwayne Bowe (KC) Bowe had a subpar season, however he can be a legitimate number one receiver. He is physical and he can get deep.
- Marques Colston (NO) Colston is a big physical WR that is not afraid to go across the middle. Colston runs good routes and doesn’t drop many passes. The Saints will try to resign Colston.
- Robert Meachem (NO) Meachem is a good downfild threat with good hands. I don’t think the Saints will be able to resign Colston and Meachem.
- Mario Manningham (NYG) With Victor Cruz emerging as one of Manning’s favorite targets Manningham is expendable. Manningham is a physical WR that can go deep. Does dorp some balls and get sloppy on his routes.
- Harry Douglas (ATL) Douglas is a solid slot receiver with speed to burn. Playing in Mularky’s offence in Atlanta make him a good prospect for the Jags.
There are other free agent wide receiver options available for the Jaguars. Given Gene Smith’s history I don’t see the Jags going after the head cases like Steve Johnson and Vincent Jackson. The good news for Jaguar fans, is that Shahid Khan wants to make a splash and spend to the cap. What better way to make a splash than signing DeSean Jackson and Mario Manningham?
SB Nation 2012 Mock Draft
Greetings Big Cat Country, P_Roach17 here from Bleeding Green Nation attempting to organize a SB Nation-wide mock draft. After a disappointing season for my Birds, and being less than thrilled with having to watch the Giants win the SB, i'm left with a football void at my core. So, as a result, I'm turning to the rest of SB Nation to satisfy not only my football needs, but the needs of others who are on the outside looking in during this 2011 postseason. You will of course be representing the Jacksonville Jaguars, who currently hold the 7th overall pick in the 2012 draft, as I'm sure you all know. Your cooperation in this poll is greatly appreciated. Note: I would like for this poll to reflect the fans choice, not necessarily who you think your team will draft. Now for a few quick rules.
Two round Jags mock draft.

34 NFL Teams
With NFL commish recently stating the NFL would rather go to 34 teams instead of moving, it got me wondering about how the divisions would work out.
Obviously one team would go to NFC/AFC, but which division? Anyone have a layout of divisions with 34 teams?
I would love the addition of 34 teams and would hate for any team to lose their team. It was nice to hear Goodell make that statement. It appears Khan had a talk with him and their is no plans to move Jaguars.
