Rhett's Jaguars Mock

I'm sorry if you are getting tired of these, but I enjoy doing them, especially when I'm bored. This is assuming there are no trades. Also this mock draft is more of what I think will happen, and not what I want to happen necessarily.

1(#7). Melvin Ingram DE South Carolina - A really good pass rusher. He has a good rip move, spin move, and a good bull rush, has great technique, and speed to get around the corner. A blue-collar guy, and is a Gene Smith guy. His only con is his size, as he is 6'1" with short arms. But he is also very versatile, and can play 43 DE, 43 DT, 34 DE, and 34 OLB. Will be a really good player. He's the type of guy who you can rotate around your defense.

2(#40.) Mohamed Sanu WR Rutgers - The Jaguars need a Z receiver, somebody who can start across from Robinson. Sanu can come in and start day 1, and be a really good player. He's a good receiver, who has a strong body that he uses to shield off defenders to make catches. Has big strong hands who is very reliable and makes a lot of tough catches, he's very hard to press at the line, and gets off the line quick. Route running needs some work, but Jerry Sullivan can help him with that, and not a big play threat. He'll make 7 and 8 yard catches all game. But you will rarely see him catch anything over 30 yards. Something to note, is Sanu never had a good QB, and was constantly targeted by his poor QB, if it was a pass play, the defense already knew where the ball was being thrown, and it was often a poor pass.

3(#70). Brian Quick WR Appalachian State - Slides right into Gene Smith's lap. He's a big receiver 6'4" 220 lbs, with long arms He's not very fast, as he's a 4.55 guy, and isn't very quick, and isn't a good route runner. And he tends to drop some easy balls. But with some coaching, can turn into a really good player, he has very high potential, and Sullivan can turn him into a great.

4(#101). Ladarius Green TE UL Lafayette - Might have to start out in the NFL as a receiver, until he learns how to block. If he does become a full time tight end, he will have to bulk up from about 238 lbs to at least 250. He's 6'6" and ran a 4.53 40 at the combine, which is faster than Brian Quick. Lined up at tight end, if teams put a linebacker on him, it'll turn out deadly, because it's like putting a linebacker on a receiver. He's a great athlete, and at 6'6" with a 35" vertical and 34.5" arms, Gabbert can easily toss it up to Green, and know he will be coming down with it. Needs some work on route running. But a guy like this, can really help Gabbert's development.

5(#142). Levy Addock OT Oklahoma State - A depth pick, a guy who can possibly be a low end starter at Right Tackle or Guard with some development.

6(#174). Ryan Davis DE Bethune-Cookman - A small school guy who the Jaguars have already looked at. At Bethune-Cookman's pro day, Davis had a personal workout with Joe Cullen, per nfldraftscout.com He's 6'2.5" 259 lbs. He had 21 TFL and 12 sacks last season. He is considered a pass rushing specialist, and has good snap anticipation and good burst. Will need some time to develop, and hopefully doesn't turn into another Larry Hart. But he is a 6th round pick, so if he doesn't make the roster, the Jags didn't risk anything.

7(#228). Dale Moss WR South Dakota State - His stock is rising, and Gene would be very happy to land him here. He only played 1 year of NCAA football, as he was a basketball player, but he's a work out warrior with a 4.38-4.45 40 yard dash, 41.5' vert, 10'10" broad, and 6.32 3 cone drill. That 6.32 3 cone drill is .18 faster than Chris Rainey's fastest 3-cone drill at the combine. What is also funny is Chris Rainey is 5'8" and excels at agility and quickness drills. Most short prospects do excel at those drills. Moss is 6'3" 213 lbs.

"A Bunch of Mocks" Take 3

Not going to name names, but I was prepared to do another edition of my "A Bunch of Mocks" series and I discovered a few days ago someone went ahead and posted a bunch of mocks under the heading "My Multiple Mock Drafts". I was contemplating legal action, but I decided to just ignore it this one time and still go ahead with my post.

Each mock is based on a different scenario, and in the cases where the scenario is a trade, I tried to be as realistic as possible, and in some ways used the Jags trade last year to move up for Gabbert as a basis for the trades.

Enjoy!

Jaguars need playmakers

I just listened to Jaguars this Week, and Tony Boselli said that the Jaguars needed a playmaker. After thinking about it I agree with him. After the 5th pick, it appears to be a crapshoot. Blackmon- not really a game breaker, great college WR, playmaker? Reiff- RT, too high to draft at that position, etc... All of the draft experts, including us fans seem to have an opinion. I read a lot on this website and other nfl websites and one thing stands true: the game tape doesn't lie. While I'm sitting here at my computer thinking about the draft instead of working, one player came to mind: Melvin Ingram. I remember watching him play in several games on ESPN and he made several highlight plays. He was someone that teams would have to game plan for. He is athletic enough to play in the zone blitz that our defense runs at times. I could go on and on, but I want to hear from you guys. Coby Fleener is another guy who has that potential in the 2nd round. I think this is a good topic to discuss here. Looking at our draft position in each round, who are the playmakers that we have the potential to acquire? Not getting any work done today, but I hope to have mine up soon in the comments. Anyone want to join me?

Dear Coach Mularkey

Since I hear you are watching a lot of tape (should it still be called this now that it's all digital?) from last year's offense, I figured I'd say hello. I'm sure at some point you wrote yourself a note along the lines of..

"Why the hell aren't we utilizing MJD on screens and cirlces? He is a great receiving threat out of the backfield!"

All I'm asking is that you please don't misfile this little nugget while dissecting all the other horrible things the offense did last year. This will dramatically increase your field position and give you a couple of explosive plays a game. That is, if you can get your QB to complete the pass.

Thanks!

Jaguar Fans

Marcus Stroud wants to play after missing a year

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d827f5b76/article/threetime-pro-bowl-dt-stroud-wants-to-play-after-missing-year?module=HP11_headline_stack here is the article

Former Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Marcus Stroud said Thursday that he's ready to return to football after taking a year off to rehabilitate following shoulder surgery

"Right now, I was thinking about maybe trying to give it one more whirl," Stroud said on SiriusXM NFL Radio, viaFOXSports.com.

Stroud signed with the New England Patriots before the 2011 season, but he said he "wasn't healthy" after having surgery and was prevented by the lockout from properly rehabbing. He also said he had to deal with "complications" resulting from a staph infection. The Patriots subsequently released him.

"I'm feeling healthy and everything, and I want to see if I can give it one more chance," Stroud said. "If I can, I can; if I can't, I'm satisfied, too."

Stroud, 33, collected 424 tackles, 29.5 sacks and eight forced fumbles in 10 seasons, making the Pro Bowl in 2003, 2004 and 2005. He played for the Jaguars from 2001 to 2007 and was with the Bills from 2008 to 2010.

"If somebody's willing to give me a call, I definitely want to get in and show what I can do," he said.

Don't really think that the Jaguars would sign Stroud, but as long time Jaguar I would like to see this guy get another chance to play.

My Jags Mock v 1.0 (5 rounds)

I'm certainly no draftnik.

But here goes my Jags mock draft. No trades. Just picks.

Rd 1 Pick # 7

With all the fans thinking they are GMs this here could be a very unpopular choice. A lot of the talking heads have Coples going here. With the way I've seen Gene operate, barring some slide from the top 5 talent pool and with no trades in my mock our GM takes Ingram DE from SC. I know a lot of people really want that homerun threat WR. But with Blackmon off the board, and performance questions about Coples, Ingram is the safe Gene pick and adds a DE(position of need) to the roster and should start opposite Mincey opening day. Some may say he is more fit for 3-4, but everything i've seen and read tells me he could be the next 'undersized' big thing at DE. Melvin Ingram, DE SC.

Rd 2 Pick # 38

Now we get to the good stuff. The pressure is off after Round 1 in many senses. Sanu is still available here and is the best available WR. He's the pick and doesn't have the Round 1 expectations or the possible let downs Jeffrey or Floyd may end up having. Sanu, WR Rutgers

Rd 3 Pick # 69

Right back to a position of need and going WR twice in a row may not be popular but I'm not going for popular. Nick Toon, WR Wisconsin, should be available here unless there is a terrible run on WRs in the second round. But he wasn't a feature player in Wisconsins run first O. I expect him to slide to us here.

Rd 4 Pick # 101

James Brown OT Troy. (Right now you may be running to google laughing thinking "who?") I think in round 4 he adds depth and is kind of a work in progress who could develop in a nice swing tackle or Brittons replacement if he is injured again.

Rd 5 pick #134

Here in round 5 I'm gonna throw a bone out there. And due to some disdain for the future mentioned college, this pick will be met with moans and groans and dislikes. But here we get a chance to upgrade the 3rd RB spot, with someone who CAN do what Deji was SUPPOSED to do. Chris Rainey, RB/KR/PR FL

Now... to flame or not to flame?

Mullayo's post season March edition

My offseason attempt. I'm not happy the front office haven't positioned ourselves in the last two years of free agency to cash in on last year's and this year's draft's strengths by leaving room for corner backs, linebacker and wide reciever. Last year we should have been getting DEs not this year, and not a QB or safeties. I'd like to get two athletic longterm linebackers in later rounds and a couple of cornerbacks but don't have the picks or roster room to spare.

1.) (7th) DT/DE Fletcher Cox- 6’6"/ 300 lbs.4.79sec

2.) (39) WR Mohamed Sanu 6'2", 216lb, 4.56 sec

3.) (71st)RT Matt McCants 6'6" 308lb, 5.25sec

4.) (103rd)DE Cam Johnson 6'3" 267lb, 4.8sec

5) (135) CB Omar Bolden 5'10, 201lb

6.) (213th) TE Evan Rodriguez 6'2", 243lb, 4.68sec

Mock Draft 3/28

Don't hate me for the trade. Just throwing a fun scenario out there. It's possible that each one of these picks will be taken higher than I drafted them. If we actually got this lucky, I'd be very surprised!

Trade with Bengals, #7 and next year's 2nd and 4th for #17 and #21 to draft Claiborne/Kirkpatrick/Gilmore/Jenkins (obviously Claibourne, but if they hold any of the other 3 high enough they could jump for one). Note: if it's Claibourne, we don't give them the 2nd next year.

17. Alshon Jeffrey: 2 months ago this would have been too low. Two weeks ago this would have been too high. Now, it's about right. After running an extremely underwhelming 4.88 at the combine, Jeffrey jumps back out to an average of 4.46 and a high of 4.39 and low of 4.54. The only real question mark on Jeffrey is his speed, and with an outstanding pro-day he may have shown he's an elite prospect. Between now and the draft, we may start wondering if he will fall this far.
21. Stephen Hill: Here batter batter. We're taking a home run swing here; hope we don't strike out. After destroying the combine, Hill has climbed to mid-1st status.
37. Nick Perry: Perry has great instincts. He takes good angles, reads plays well, great against the run (our staple) shows patience and has an endless motor. He's also got good burst strength and can push a lineman backwards with his hand movements. I don't think he's an elite pass rusher or the best one in this draft, and I have made it known I'd like to swing for the fences if we go for a DE, but I feel his instincts and athleticism could be a very good compliment to Mincey.
71. Bobbie Massie: Massie somehow falls to our spot in the 3rd. Massie is a solid-to-good prospect at RT who has been said to do everything well, although nothing spectacular. He can pass block, run block, and does a good job standing his ground. Although not an elite prospect, he still has lots of room to grow. He's been said to be a guy who can start right away.
96. Michael Egnew: This guy is an atheltic stud, and was 2010 1st team All-American with Blaine Gabbert throwing to him. Many teams may pass on him due to his lack of production and the abundance of good 2nd-3rd round TEs this year, but we have to explore that Gabbert-Egnew chemistry. Perhaps with Egnew to throw to, we see Gabbert settle down a little bit.
5. Tank Carder: In my opinion, one of the most underrated linebackers in recent memory. This could be a real steal.
6. Akiem Hicks: Goobye Collins and Douzable, hello Hicks. Collins had a knack for big plays and douzable was reliable. Hicks is somewhere in between, and like Douzable has the ability to kick it to the outside.
7. Shaun Powell: 3 way punter competition. Let's get this sh!t straightend out by next year.

Gabbert, Henne*
Mjd, Jennings, Harris, Owens
Jones, Bolen

Monroe, Bradfield
Rackley,
Meester, Estes
Nwarni, Whimper
Massie*, Britten

Lewis, Egnew*, Miller, Cloherty

Jeffery*, Hill*
Robinson*, Dillard
Thomas, Shorts

Mincey, ?
Knighton, Mosley
Alualu, Hicks*
Perry*, Lane

Smith, Allen
Posluszny, Carder*

Coleman, Sessions

Mathis, Ross*
Cox, Middleton

Lowery, Trent, Isaac
Landry, Prosinski
