Shahid Khan's first step: Remove interim tag from Mel Tucker and hire Norv Turner as Offensive Coordinator

In the past two days the Jags have made some of the best decisions in their history. First, Wayne Weaver ridded ourselves of the worst coaching hire in not only modern football history but all of human history but that is neither here nor there, his decision to make Mel Tucker interim head coach was a brilliant and underrated move. His first two decisions as head coach, to demote Mike Sheppard and fire Johnny Cox, further prove that. Tucker has created possibly the greatest defensive unit ever to put on teal. This is a unit that last season couldn't stop Betty White if she decided to thrown on a uniform and give it a go as running back. He built a cohesive unit with many new pieces and he hasn't had the luxury of having any offensive to speak of to give our guys a rest. In short, he has worked a miracle no Jaguar fan believed was possible at the season's beginning. Wayne Weaver's best offseason decision was to strip Del Rio of his defensive coaching and play-calling duties and give them to Tucker. Del Rio was a blight on the team but Tucker is one heckuva coach and our guys respond to him. He motivates and despite the injuries and the losses piling up there has been no drop off in the defense's play or effort. There is no doubt in my mind he will make an excellent head coach and he will be great for the community of Jacksonville. That settles that issue. We also have a new owner who loves football! According to reports he has great football knowledge and with deeper pockets than Wayne we will spend a lot of money in free agency to upgrade this roster. That leaves us with one big question: the offense. The answer is simple: Norv Turner as offensive coordinator. Our opponent of this Monday Night's game will have a huge coaching shakeup in the offseason and Turner will be fired. It is a foregone conclusion. One thing no one can argue with though is that he is a BRILLIANT offensive mind. One only has to look at his track record at developing QB's and his success as an offensive coordinator to see that he would be the perfect fit to come in and take Blaine to the next level. Need I mention his success developing Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin in Dallas or that he was the only coach to get something out of Alex Smith before Jim Harbaugh came on this year. Importantly, his offenses are not only known to be high-powered and exciting but also balanced and consistent. He will solve the offensive woes and he will be able to focus only the offense. His abilities as a head coach are certainly questionable but he is one of the best O-coordinators in football history. Jaguars fan deserve an exciting hire and someone with rings and proven track record of success. I hope this article gets Jaguars fans pumped up and Alfie I would love to hear your take on how plausible a move like this is. He coached in Miami and he has been moved all across the country so I do not think uprooting his family would be an issue and I also believe Khan would be willing to pay him the high salary he would command. He certainly can afford it. He would be the last remaining piece we need in Jacksonville. GO Jags and let's go help us out this Monday night by kicking some Charger ass. Buy tickets! Support the team!

What's Next for the Jaguars?

Now that Del Rio has been fired, Mel Tucker will be the acting HC for the remainder of the season.

First, Tucker should keep his job as the DC after a new head coach is hired. This is because under Tucker, the defense has been one of the best in the NFL.

Next, a new coach must be hired. A good possibility is Ravens former head coach Billick. He is extremely knowledgeable and he has a Super Bowl Ring. He may be costly, but to have a coach with his amount of knowledge and experience, makes it worth it.

We need to look forward to the draft. We should focus heavily on the Offensive line, especially the Right Tackle. Guy Whimper has been ineffective in protecting the QB, which is part of why Gabbert hasn't been successful. Maybe we should loose the rest of our games on purpose so that we get the first pick in the draft, where we draft Andrew Luck to take McCown's place since his contract ends.

We should mix up our run game a little bit. Put either Owens, Kaim, Jennings (when healthy), and Murphy (when healthy) This will improve our run game because we can develop more weapons in order to win games. They will also gain more experience. Making a RB/KR will more than likely give us better field position Which will give us a better chance to win games.

We should (if possible) hire an EXPERIENCED QB who has had an exceptional year to tutor Gabbert for about six weeks. This can help improve his accuracy, hand-offs, ball control, and get him to look down the field more and less at the defenders coming at him. Which, if the Offensive line is doing it's job, he won't get sacked so much and would be able to pass better.

With these sudden changes that have just occurred (Wayne Weaver selling the team to Shahid Khan and Del Rio being fired) the future looks bright for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

GO TO THE GAMES

The selling of the jaguars has immediately brought back up the talk of us moving to LA. Before we all knew it wouldn't happen because Wayne Weaver was a good man and would keep good on his promise that the team would stay in jacksonville and LA didnt have a stadium. Now hes gone and when you think about it why would Khan stay in Jacksonville? the team doesnt have support and if he moved it he would make an incredible amount of money and put the jags at center stage.

The way we can once and for all squash these rumors is simple. GO TO THE GAMES. This is said EVERY DAY but it never seems to sink in. The jaguars WILL LEAVE JACKSONVILLE if we do not consistantly sell out the stadium. Khan has no loyalty to us and i guarantee you he will move this team when the lease is up if we do not start buying tickets. And the sad thing we will never get another one. This is it! the Jags are our only sports team and i am tired of hearing about how crappy our fan base is. So go buy a ticket if you havent already

There is no way an owner can move a team that is making some good money and has support behind it. Even if it is one game go to it. If you are reading this right now and haven't atleast gone to one jags game this year go on the Jacksonville jags website and BUY ONE! Its a great experience and if you luck out you might see a play like the hail mary. Jags games are exciting and there is no reason not to go to at least one.

The jaguars are a part of our identity and if we lose them we will never get them back so GO TO THE GAMES AND GO JAGS!

no hard feelings

Yes for the past two months i have been asking for Jack Del Rio to be fired. Today that request has been answered and but i hope he will have success somewhere else. Del Rio isn't a bad guy he's actually a pretty good coordinator but i think he just doesn't have what it takes to be the head coach an NFL team. IM sure he will find work somewhere as a coordinator but with his resumé i would say if he wants to be a head coach go to the college level.

The Search For A Head Coach

This post is meant to be a place to discuss the head coach opening, so that we don't clutter the Fanpost sidebar with everyone's personal head coaching idea.  In lieu of everyone making their own Fanpost, just put your ideas in the comments.

Having done a little (very minimal) research, I have come up with the top 10 offensive and defensive coordinators in the NFL.  This is based SOLELY on their offense or defense's current overall rating. This is in no way an all inclusive list.  It's just meant to be food for thought.

OFFENSE:

  • Pete Carmichael, Jr. - New Orleans
  • Bill O'Brien - New England
  • Marty Mornhinweg - Philadelphia
  • Joe Philbin - Green Bay
  • Rob Chudzinski - Carolina
  • John Garrett - Dallas
  • Clarence Shelmon - San Diego
  • Rick Dennison - Houston
  • Scott Linehan - Detroit
  • Bruce Arians - Pittsburgh

DEFENSE:

  • Wade Phillips - Houston
  • Dick Lebeau - Pittsburgh
  • Chuck Pagano - Baltimore
  • Mel Tucker - Jacksonville
  • Mike Zimmer - Cincinnati
  • Dick Jauron - Cleveland
  • Vic Fangio - San Francisco
  • Mike Pettine - NY Jets
  • Brian VanGorder - Atlanta
  • Kris Kocurek - Detroit

Just a couple of thoughts here, then I'll let you get to commenting.  I don't trust Bill O'Brien, John Garrett, Clarence Shelmon, Chuck Pagano, Mike Pettine, Brian VanGorder, or Kris Kocurek as viable candidates for a head coaching position.  I think the head coaches they work for do their job, and their title exists because there has to be a coordinator title put on someone.  Dick Lebeau isn't going anywhere (unless it's Hawaii for his retirement), Wade Phillips is clearly just a defensive coordinator, Dick Jauron has already had his chance and failed, and Rob Chudzinski is doing it for the first time while getting creative with Cam Newton.

All of that really whittles my list down to Carmichael, Mornhinweg, Philbin, Dennison, Linehan, Arians, Tucker, Zimmer, and Fangio.

I have no idea which way Gene Smith will lean, if it's any of these listed, but I do think there are some college coaches and current NFL head coaches (who will probably be fired) that also deserve consideration.

Let the rampant speculation begin!!!

My opinion of the Jaguars

In my opinion the Jaguars suck right now. Last year we over achieved and got our expectations up. This year we are playing to our abilities. We have some items that we must remember. We had 5 years of bad drafting and free agent signings. Our past GM drafted for need and only need. He signed free agents the same way. Our present GM drafts BAP (best player available) and looks for young up and coming players during free agency. This year we addressed our defense in free agency and now have a top 5 defense even through we have 5 starters out. Jacksonville will be addressing the offensive side of the ball during the April draft and free agency this year. Our head coach and coaching staff should be replaced with a few exceptions. Our entire defensive coaching staff should be retained they are part of the reason we have a top 5 defense. Hopefully we will get a qb coach who will develop our young qb and help him read defenses better. A wide receiver coach that can teach our receivers route running and catching the ball. Will all this fixed and we get a quality wideout in the draft and in free agency we should be winning the AFC south division for the next few years .

Why 2012 could be special.

With the 2011 Jacksonville Jaguars season over it is time to look ahead.  Where will the Jaguars be at this time next year?

I am encouraged that this team will compete for the playoffs next year. At 3-8 you may think that I am crazy. This offseason the Jaguars have strengthened the D and it will most likely it will improve this offseason  the re-signings, veteran FA, and a few additions in the draft. It is a young D, and with a FA DE of Mario Williams, Cliff Avril, or Robert Mathis. It could become known as one of the top D's in the league. We know this, and have seen it this year.

Why am I encouraged? Because we still can run the ball. MJD, Greg Jones, and the O-line are still producing even with a passing offense that is as good as a kindergardener is at calculus. With Rashad Jennings coming back and a draft pick, VFA at the position I think we can expect that to continue next season.

I also am encouraged because we can't be worse at passing than we have been this year. The O-line had a bad game against Houston but all in it it is young and improving. I am hoping that Brittle Britton comes back and plays well next year. We might move Britton to LG and have Rackley take over at C when Meester hangs up the cleats.

If we finish 4-12 I think we draft Kalil and have him play RT. With the new CBA it would not be an outrageous salary and he may solve the hole that Guy that Whimpers creates from time to time.

The skill positions need the most overhaul. Only MJD and Marcedes Lewis should feel safe. The rest are still young and have so chance to get better with a full offseason with Blaine. There are some players in FA and the draft that will improve the team. I am not sold on the "top tier" draft picks in Blackmon or Alshon Jeffrey. I think that we should go after Lloyd, Wayne, Jackson, Jackson, Colston, Bowe, Stevie Johnson, Meachem, Manningham, Douglas, or anybody because our WR's suck. I mean can give them credit that they are good enough to play in the NFL but J. Hill, Cecil Shorts, Chastin West, and Dillard are all worse than the players named as FA look ins. Thomas may not be better than any of the named players either. I think that the draft has many of 2nd-4th round WR options that would be great additions. Sanu, Toon, Wright, McNutt, ECT. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/prospectrankings/TSX/2012_WR I would go with a WR in both round 2 and 3. Still BAP but BAP with the idea of graded levels. If a WR is there at that level go with him. Don't just draft WR's if another player is significantly better.

To simplify. My offseason prediction if the Jags go 4 -12 and have pick # 3 in 2012 NFL draft.

Draft

1st. Kalil USC OT

2nd - Wright WR Baylor

3rd - Nick Toon WR Wisconsin

4th - Egnew, TE Mizzou

Monday morning coaches meeting

*It's time for the weekly Jaguars coaching meeting, all the coaches are in and ready....except for Jack Del Rio and Dirk Koetter*

*Del Rio walks in looking sad and distraught, he slams his notebook and takes a seat next to Special Teams coordinator Russ Purnell*

Purnell: Come on Jack, don't be so discouraged.  It's not all your fault that were 3-8 and that we lost yesterday

JDR: No, No I'm not angry because of that Dumbass....Anyone notice something different today?

Tucker (Defense): OH OH OH I KNOW, CULLEN'S WEARING PANTS

Cullen (DLine) : Hey Mel, your mom didn't mind me going pantless

Sheppard (QB's): Simmer down you guys, I know the answer.  Obviously Jack isn't wearing his "Lucky undies"

JDR: All of you are idiots....I'm not angry about the loss (we'll turn it around) I'm angry about the fact that after our last loss Sea Best Seafood has rescinded their Jaguar sponsorship......So the sad news is that today our meeting will be partaken without crab cakes

*Koetter who was opening the door and heres the news and immediately pulls a gun from his sweatpants pocket and shoots himself in the leg....He dies from blood loss and no one seems to care*

JDR: *Over the loud speaker* Can we have a janitor in room 36, I repeat room 36

Sheppard: Well now that Koetter is gone, I guess I'll call the plays

*The ghost of Vince Lombardi appears and starts yelling in Swedish before realizing where he is and adjusting*

Lombardi: NO NO NO, I will not let Mike Sheppard ruin the NFL any more than the Jaguars offense has...He's a receivers coach coaching a raw rookie quarterback....I mean who's fucking dumb idea was that?

JDR: *Raises hand and goes crazy* OH OH Vince that was my idea, I know I'm really smart and stuff so just don't mention it...*giggles*

Lombardi: What the hell is going on out here

*Coming in the room are two 24 year old "Jaguar fans" on a tour of the stadium sponsored by Bowden Eye Associates*

*The two fans somehow bypass security, most likely because Guy Whimper was on duty, and go slam the door open*

Fan 1) Man it's dem coaches man, dem coaches are dem dumbo's dat keep losing us dem damn games

Fan 2) Man where's Del Rio man, Hey Del Rio I found you, Man why didn't you draft my homie Tebow.... Man if the Jags picked Tebow they would have 8 rings by now....I mean all he does is win man....Man dem Jags would be getting 95,000 fans a game and would be America's Team

*The roof opens and Tebow glides in*

JDR: Oh Lord, not again, not again.....Tim why are you here AGAIN?

Tebow: Well I'm actually on a mission trip and I happened to pop in and I heard my name

*The 2 fans begin chanting and start rubbing Tebow's hair....*

*Gabbert soon enters and pushes Tebow*

Gabbert: Woah there motherfucker, if anyone deserves a hair rub it's this guy....I mean look at these golden locks

JDR: Well this has been useful.....

*Del Rio walks out of the room crying and ends up at a Wendy's with a "I'm with stupid shirt*

*The cashier at Wendy's turns out to be SALTWATERJAG, who belittles Del Rio and calls for JDR to sign Randy Moss and Brett Favre*

*Del Rio realizing his fate falls to the ground and curses God, which leads to another Tebow appearance, Tebow then begins to preach from the bible*

DeSean Jackson

Having contract problems in Philly, this offense could use any type of playmaker especially to get people out of the box for MJD. I think having a deep threat could really open things up for MJD running, the middle of the field for Lewis, and the slot for Thomas to be utilized. Most of his current problems are coming from the Eagles paying all of those Free Agents instead of paying their own players first, cauing problems for Jackson. Thoughts?
