Jaguars linebacker Daryl Smith has been ruled out of Sunday's game against the Oakland Raiders.
Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Daryl Smith returned to practice in a limited capacity on Wednesday, putting out hope that he might finally be able to return to action after missing all five games of the 2012 season so far with a groin injury. Smith gave it a go on Wednesday, but missed practice on Thursday and Friday and was officially ruled out of sunday's game against the Oakland Raiders.
Smith injured his groin in the preseason and hasn't been on the field since, making a noticeable hole in the Jaguars linebacker group, who's struggled without him in the lineup, especially in pass protection. Once again Smith's starting spot will be filled by either Kyle Bosworth or Julian Stanford against the Raiders.
One has to hope however that Smith did not suffer another setback in his injury, like he did earlier in the season while trying to come back. Smith is in the final year of his contract, but it may reach the point with his injury that he'll need to be placed on injured reserve.
