Titans Game

I noticed on the Jaguars fan map Steve-Neil made on zeemaps, that there are a lot of Jaguars fans in the vicinity of Tennessee. I was wondering if any of you would be interested in getting a group together for the game against the titans on 11/10.

Help prove that the Jaguars do have fans and get to meet some fellow Jaguars fans
(you can never know enough)

I would like to see about a group all getting into one section and raising hell. If anyone is interested, let me know. And spread the word!
I noticed on the Jaguars fan map Steve-Neil made on zeemaps, that there are a lot of Jaguars fans in the vicinity of Tennessee.
A Maryland boy with a heart for Jacksonville

Hi my name is Zach. I am from Maryland. I remember my first football game I ever had watched. It was the Jaguars versus the Ravens. As it became 1999&2000 I remember watching the Jaguars more closely and becoming obsessed with them. Remember I had the Ravens I could root for but I gravitated towards the Jaguars. Something about this team up until the Gene Smith era made them feel magical.

Then came the Smith era and the inconsistency, it made me feel like giving up especially in 09/10 but I stayed. I felt the magic would came around again. I felt even when I was bullied by my high school classmates and hearing they are moving jokes or are you guys going to get Teb(l)ow. When the team was sold, I was afraid it might becoming true. I thank God it didn't because of Shadid and his new regime. It also hadn't help that the ravens had won their 2nd Super Bowl before the Jaguars.

The magic has been revived with the positive energy.

I still argue with these raven fans but with the change of times it seems easier because the retorts they use are the same old stuff we hear but we know aren't true. The regime has done a bang up job at changing the view of the roster. The moving jokes seem to have ended and the organization and Bold City is strengthing the spirit and the magic that first captured my attention. I may not be from Duval but I am Jaguar fan til the day I die. I am Generation Jaguar because I did grow up watching this team. So as I enter my college years as a student of Jacksonville U. I hope the magic has truly returned and I grow in my college years with the rebirthed team.

why i have Jacksonville 31 in my power poll

let me give u a bio of myself i have cerebral palsy arthritis and other medical problems

Jax since 2007 have been a team in transition on offence blaine gabbert has looked like a deer in headlights C Henne has too long a windup etc

bat Jax main Problem the last 5 years is bad drafting at the top of the draft

L Jokel seems like a good idea at 2 will MJD come back from a bad foot the same as he was in 2011

i love your WR Core proved blackmon stays on the field M Lewis is too incont

Your OT are good but your middle or the o-line needs more work

other than babin u lack pass rush how will u replace OLB Darryl Smith your CB And Safety will be better that most think Cyprien has a bright future

Bottom Line this is a 3-6 win team that if they can get a star QB in 2014 could start compete again but it will not be easy

My Pick 4-12

Jags Sign Center

I checked the roster just seconds ago, and saw that we have signed a center, Dan Gerberry. He is 6'3" tall, 302 Lbs, is 27 years old, and has one year of experience under his belt. HE went to Ball State. This is all I know about him. He doesn't even have a number yet. He could be just another "Camp Body" for the backup center role.

NOTE: I got this information from Jaguars.com.

Saw this and I definitely was impressed. I met Josh at the Landing one day maybe a year and a half ago, and he was a really cool guy. His wife was looking through the Jersey's and she didn't see his and said they need more Scobee ones, and he just looked at her and said nobody wants that nonsense. She turned to me and asked who's your favorite Jaguar? And of course I knew who he was, but my friend who has never watched a game on tv and only listens on the radio(he wouldn't recognize Peyton Manning if he sat across from him at dinner), he said Scobee of course, that kick against the colts? Unbelievable. He laughed and said thanks, I definitely appreciate it. My friend didn't understand of course but he introduced himself and stopped and talked to us, not just about Football, just anything in general. He asked where we went to school, what we wanted to do for a career, what we liked to do for fun, etc. It was a cool experience.

A SWOT Analysis

Let me begin by introducing myself. My name is Chris and I am an Entertainment Business Bachelors graduate of Full Sail University. I have lived in Jacksonville for the past 21 years and have been a Jaguars fan since day 1 when we were incepted in '93. Alright, enough about me.

This article is going to take a Business approach to the "State of the Franchise". It is called a 'SWOT Analysis' which is Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities & Threats. These are a necessity in the small business world and also in the entrepreneurial business world as well, as they provide multiple avenues of information. These avenues consists of target market, competition, local area demographics, local area demographical trends and many more.

Let's begin with the strengths. The city of Jacksonville is what a LOT of people in the sports industry like to call a "college town". They say this because of its location being within driving distance of a handful of great universities, ie FSU, UF, UGA, the U, just to name a few. This brings forward an amazing strength for the city itself, sports fans. Football fans are unique, as is the sport. Football fans only have 1 game a week, sometimes 2 if there's a Thursday night game, to prepare for. Unlike sports like baseball/basketball/hockey, that makes life a little easier to schedule. Football fans can easily make means necessary to go and see their games, assuming they have the funds available to do so. Jacksonville, being the "college town", has Sundays wide open, making schedules that much easier for people to adjust to. The next strength is the growth of the city. Jacksonville and its surrounding areas have been on a growing trend for at least the past decade. According to USA.com Jacksonville's population growth, 2000-2010, was nearly 12%. Granted, this rate is lower than the near 18% for the state of Florida, but it is higher than the national average of only 9%. Population will never be a problem for the Jaguars, in fact, it's in my opinion their biggest strength.

Oh the fun part… weaknesses! I'll say it immediately, Jacksonville's economy sucks. Jacksonville is a small business town with a whole slew of small business towns around it, ie Orange Park, Macclenny, Lake City, St. Augustine… I could go on for a while. The biggest corporate income the city has would be the ports. The ports do bring in a great amount of income for the city, but it's pretty much the lone source of large corporate business, aside from a few others including CSX/Winn-Dixie. I'm not saying that this an end-all for the franchise because of a slightly stale economic market, but it's not the brightest spot in Jacksonville for a professional sports team. USA.com reports that the median family income in Jacksonville is $54,182. This is over $6,000 lower than the US average. I'm using the family income because I personally believe there are more families that attend Jaguars games than there are individuals living on their own. $54,182 is going to look like roughly $29-31 after taxes and such which leaves not much per month if you have a family of 4 or more. Monthly grocery bills any more can easily be $150-200/week which translates already to roughly a fourth of that income. Now let's include travel expenses, 12k miles a year at 20mpg at $3.40/gallon takes out another $2,040 from that… and that's assuming it's a one car family, that number is easily doubled and tripled for families with multiple cars. Oh yea, we have 2 kids that go to school, so let's take another $1000 for supplies and clothes. Let's also figure in a house payment of $800-1200/mo and utilities around $300/mo. So, we look at this in the end and there's not much room to pay for extra-curricular activities unless we put it on credit, or we possibly sacrifice other areas to make this happen, ie retirements, 401k, IRA… But that's where a lot of Jaguars fans are smart (Middleburg/Westside/Macclenny not included, love you guys!) and typically ride together and tailgate at games. Obviously this is something many teams do but there's always plenty of Jaguars fans riding together to save that extra $25-50/game for parking. Needless to say, the only real weakness the Jaguars have is an economic market that does not push for a professional team of any type, but interestingly enough, we still survive.

Opportunities!! Our now sophomore owner, Mr. Khan, has grabbed opportunity by the throat and is making the best of each and every one. I will not compare Khan to Weaver as they both are vastly different in their business views. I do believe Weaver had the right means as a businessman in getting Jacksonville an NFL team but I also believe that Khan is better at improving what is already there. Again, neither are better or worse, just that they're different in their business focus. Jacksonville has many opportunities. One of their opportunities is their biggest strength, sports fans. Having a multitude of sports fans ready and available makes selling tickets and merchandise a lot easier. Khan has an opportunistic state of mind when it comes to his business ventures. He sees the opportunity, studies it, learns its own strengths and weaknesses, and then capitalizes on it. This is the type of ownership the Jaguars franchise currently needs to help build up to everything it can and will be.

Threats. Threats are not fun to write about in an analysis… Typically they're viewed as an attack on that individual, business or entity. Currently there are a few threats against the Jaguars organization. The whole "Jags would do better in X city/country" is the biggest threat against the franchise. As a business, the Jaguars don't want to hear that. It's a sign of people having no faith in the organization and people wanting to see it go away and get out of their hair. Sadly, this mentality has been here for a while, and rightfully so. We covered up seats, we had black-outs, we have fans giving up tickets because "their player" wasn't drafted, and we also have lawyers trying to use levy donating to a charity if we pick up a certain player… It's normal for individual fans to do things such as that, but not a law office. It's distasteful and not a good business practice, but then again he's a lawyer, 'nuff said. Our economic weakness is also a threat to the organization. You can go back and read the weaknesses paragraph to understand where I'm coming from here.

Welp, for my first write-up on the organization and on BCC I hope you enjoy the read and I do hope for some good input from the readers.

God bless,

Stand United: Beyond the 904

As rallying cries of "Stand united!" and "Even if he's released" bounce off the waters of the St. Johns River, I can't help but notice the number of fans standing with the team and fan base during this rebirth who do not live in the Jacksonville area. Perhaps they moved. Perhaps they never lived there. We are all being called to do our part as fans, but the people who live in Jacksonville boast a distinct advantage here: they live in Jacksonville.

I figure why does it have to stop there? I know I've been there, and I know a lot of you have. You're the only guy or girl sporting Jag Swag at your local watering hole and you're subject to the taunts and jeers of far less attractive fans of other teams. Or maybe you've forced someone to come along with you to an away game nearby.

Maybe it doesn't have to be this way. Hell, maybe there are enough lone wolf Jag fans around you to start a new BCB chapter. The Browns Backers have people all over the world. And they're the Browns. Why not us? You never know until you try. So here I present you this modest map which I've tediously created by clicking a few buttons.

Jaguars Fan Map

Simply click "Additions > Add Marker - Simple" and include your BCC username and location. No need to provide any extensive information. At most, we unite fans in different regions who can watch games together from the comfort of a Buffalo Wild Wings or the discomfort of an opposing team's stadium. At least, we make a visual statement showing support for the Jags around the country and globe.

At best, new friends are made and passions are shared. At worst, you get killed by some drifter searching for victims on sports blogs.

Sounds pretty win-win to me.

NOTE: If the inclusion of this map in anyway violates BCC and/or SB Nation policy, I apologize and welcome its hasty removal. Just thought this might be a cool idea.

EDIT: The embedded map doesn't seem to be working anyway. I've now inserted a direct link above. Unfortunately, I can't envision a scenario where I would ever give out the password ... evenifhesreleased

NFC North:

Green Bay Packers: 12-4

Holding Out For No Holdouts

For a team that went 2-14 last season, this fan base is pretty fired up about its team. A busy and eventful offseason has a lot to do with that and of course we'd all like to keep the positive energy flowing. That's why I'm holding out for no rookie holdouts this offseason. They seem to be a bit of a buzz kill.

The Jaguars rookie holdout history actually started in the year of the team's best season. In July of 1999 Fernando Bryant walked away from contract talks (at the advice of his agent Jimmy Sexton) over the 5th year of his contract. The Jaguars wanted it in his deal, he didn't. Eleven days later Bryant was in camp with a 5 year, 5.3 million deal. The team would go on to complete a 14-2 season, reach the AFC Championship, and only lose to one team all year. The holdout didn't affect the season or the player that much. Not all rookie holdouts would go so smoothly though.

During the 2003 Draft, someone at the Vikings organization (or Ravens depending on who's telling the story) lost track of time and didn't get the trade or pick in. The result: our Jaguars had the unexpected joy of drafting Byron Leftwich. The team was looking for a replacement for then QB Mark Brunell and Byron was their guy. The fan base was split on this idea at the time and the only thing that could aggravate those feelings more was a rookie holdout. Leftwich's holdout would be the longest in franchise history lasting 19 days. His final deal was a 5 year deal worth close to $30 million. This was Jaguars fans' first taste of a real nasty holdout, and it affected feelings toward the QB that lasted arguably his entire time here. But the Leftwhich holdout wasn't the worst or the longest.

The worst holdout in team history was the 33 day holdout of defensive end Derrick Harvey. Drafted 8th overall in 2008, the University of Florida standout is considered to be one of the biggest busts in franchise history. The issue was mostly dollars and cents. Harvey's agent thought his client's contract should look like Sedrick Ellis' 5 year deal with $20 million guaranteed. In the end, after missing all of training camp and the first 3 preseason games, Harvey received a 5 year deal worth over $33 million with over $17 million guaranteed. The deal was also loaded with incentives based on his expected success. Harvey's career being described as "less than stellar" is about the nicest way to put it. As soon as the deal was done, Harvey met up with the rest of the team in Washington D.C. to play the last half of the last preseason game. His rookie season would be a constant struggle as he tried to learn all the things he missed by not being in training camp. To compound the problem for Harvey and the team, the 2008 campaign was a disaster. After going 11-5 and reaching the playoffs in 2007, the team would only win 5 games the year after not meeting any preseason expectations.

So as we anxiously await the start of the 2013 season, I'm hoping the new front office has some sort of magic potion that will keep the holdout demons away. Holdouts tend to make it hard for a player to get acclimated to the NFL and also just isn't fun to read about from a fan's perspective. Whether any of this Draft class' rookies holdout or not, It'll be an interesting way to gauge how the new front office does business and a great way to see how quickly any honeymoons will end for the new regime.

Possible Pride Inductees

After hearing about the unfortunate news of Jimmy Smith's recent arrest I got to thinking about the possible inductees into the Pride of the Jaguars for some reason.

Honestly, with Jimmy's past, I could never see him being inducted and now this recent incident has made my feelings stronger about the subject. I know it's true that what he's done on the field certainly warrants being there, but I just can't see it happening.

But with that I started to think about if an induction were to be coming anytime soon, who would the people who we could see with their names hanging in Everbank Field.

Mark Brunell - Quarterback 1995-2003 - The former Packers, Jaguars, Redskins, and Jets Quarterback, and now current Episcopal head Football coach, is the holder of most major Jaguars passing records including Career Passing Yards, Completions, Attempts, and Touchdowns. He was the leader of the high powered offense of the Late 90's that was responsible for making the Jaguars the only expansion franchise is NFL history to visit the playoffs in 3 of it's first 4 years of play. He finished his Jaguars career with a record of 63-54, 3 Pro Bowls, and 2 AFC championship appearances.

2,184-3,616 (comp-att) 25,698 Yards Passing with 144 Touchdowns - 429 Rushes for 2219 Yards with 14 Touchdowns - 3 Pro Bowls ('96, '97, '99)

Keenan McCardell - Wide Receiver 1996-2001 - The 2nd receiver in an amazing duo between himself and Jimmy Smith in that spectacular late 90's offense. Considered to be maybe the first big Free Agent signing by the Jaguars(Obviously Jimmy Smith could be that and arguably he probably is, but I don't think people had any expectations of Smith as they did for Keenan), McCardell made his first Pro Bowl in after his first season in Jacksonville, with 1,129 yards and 3 touchdowns. He reached 1,000 yards receiving 4 times in his 6 years in Jacksonville, and never had less than 891 yards. All this considering he was only the #2 guy in the passing game. He ranks #2 in every major receiving category, including receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns, to none other than Jimmy Smith.

499 Receptions, 6393 Yards Receiving with 30 touchdowns - 1 Pro Bowl (1996)

Tom Coughlin - Head Coach 1995-2002 - In all seriousness, I sincerely think if Wayne and Delores Weaver are in the Pride, then Mr. Coughlin deserves to be in as well. He was the team's first Head Coach and General Manager, he led the most successful expansion team in history, and won the NFL's Coach of the Year in 1996. In my honest opinion, you are crazy if you don't think he needs to be there (when the time is right of course).

68–60 Coaching Record, 4-4 Playoff Record - 2 AFC Title Game Appearances - 1996 NFL Coach of the Year

Mike Hollis - Kicker 1995-2002 - I'm absolutely Serious.

175-217 (FGM-FGA) - 239-242 (XPM-XPA) - 1 Pro Bowl (1997) - Led NFL in Points in 1997

After hearing about the unfortunate news of Jimmy Smith's recent arrest I got to thinking about the possible inductees into the Pride of the Jaguars for some reason.

One Mr Ronnie Cameron

Can we please bring this guy in for a look. I have been harping about this kid for a solid year now. He is for sure better than Pendleton and Smith. Plus he can play all over the line. He could come in and be a really effective player for us. From what I can tell Bradley likes one extremely big guy two normal big guys and one fast pass rusher on his D-Line. We have our really big guy already. This man would be great behind Alualu or even on the opposite end position from the LEO. He was a 3-4 end in Philly and played DT in college. What do you all think? Worth a look?

A perspective of the Tebow Issue you may not have thought about....

Let me first say this isn't an anti or pro Tebow article. This is an article about how the media circus that surrounds him has helped the Jaguars. Ok, so you're, "how in the world has all of that craziness helped the Jaguars?" Well, in a word, exposure. That has been the one thing this franchise and to an extent, this city has lacked, since the inception of the Jaguars. Sure, many can say we went 14-2 in 1999, but that was before this media explosion of twitter, facebook and the blogsphere amongst many others. That's a big problem in this day and age. We truly have not been a relevant team in this social media era and hence all of the negative comments and views of the team. Hell, the traditional scrubs of the NFL (Detroit, Cincincati, New Orleans) have had something that drew attention to them (Stafford + Megatron's recent seasons or traditional Thanksgiving home games for the Lions, making the playoffs a few seasons in a row for the Bengals, or finally winning the Super Bowl for the Saints after Hurrican Katrina). We need exposure.

MJD? What about that guy? He only led the league in rushing a mere season ago. Well guess what, unless you're breaking 2,000 yards (or a hardcore FF player), no one cares about a running back. It's all about the QB. We've all seen it's a passing league now, hence that season simply isn't enough. We needed something else to bring exposure to our beloved Jaguars. That exposure has come in the form of Tebow mania or TM.

Before TM, we had journalists, bloggers, the media all talking negative about our franchise and our fanbase. Not only was it negative, it was ill-informed. We've all read it. We've all lived it. We're all tired of it. And now we've responded! That's the key: our response. We had a catalyst to force us to respond to the growing misinformation spread about our franchise. We've stood united in the face of this adversity. We've had the BCB tighten their bootstraps and ask the fanbase to Stand United with the front office of the Jaguars. We've had our fans get interviewed to gain perspectives. We've had celebrities, many misinformed, chime in with their thoughts. They are dropping the name of our team, our city. They are researching the history of the Jaguars, coming to our fan run websites. We are changing minds, forcing the media to take notice that Jacksonville is a National Football League city and we have a franchise that won't simply rest on its laurels of being in that elite club. With all of the TM, the media has to finally research their 'facts' about our franchise to present the counterpoint to everyone saying he belongs here. They may not always present that side, but they're having to do it.

We have an owner who has said all of the right things to get exposure to his team while not bringing TM here directly. We have a GM and a coach who are about as well respected, albeit on potential, as any other in the league. We have a new logo on a new uniform. A new face of the franchise in Joeckel, much like Boselli was 18 years ago when we were at our height. We have the future ahead of us and it is bright. Thanks to TM, others are seeing this and are rising to Stand United, more united than we have ever been. We are Jaguars. This is our roar. This is our team. This is our city. We will stand united.
