2011

The NFL is in trouble and big trouble it is. In 2011 Football may go away forever. The players say the owners want to much. The owners say the players have the lions share of the pie Who is right. I say both of them. The players get 61 % of the profits, but they also have the risk of getting hurt or better yet crippled. T%he owners want to take the game to Mexico, England and possibly Japan to grow the market. If there is a strike in 2011 no one wins and we the fans get fubar again. I know that I for one would not come back< I did it with Baseball, basketball and Hockey and could do it with the nfl as well .

Rufio904's Pre Combine Mock Draft

1)Rolando Mclain LB- Why would you pass up on the guy who is supposed to be the next Patrick Willis?! Rolando Mclain is the best value at this spot and will be a leader on the D for a long time. Look at the national Championship game, he single handedly destroyed Texas.

3)Vladimir Ducasse G- At 6-5 336lbs Ducasse is a complete mauler in run blocking. Weaknesses in his pass blocking caused him to move to guard and a mediocre senior bowl performance hopefully pushed him back to rd 3 where the Jags will be targeting him.

4)Austin Lane DE- Lane has great size at 6-6 267lbs and can hold his own v.s. the run. Where he really excels is v.s the pass. Lane racked up 11 sacks at 1-AA Murray State and 9.5 tackles for loss. His 1-AA status will push him back in the draft. Side Note: New Jags Offensive Assistant Matt Griffin was Head Coach at Murray State When Lane first came there.

5)Arrterrus Verner CB- Verner might as well be mini-Rashean. He plays exactly like him, aggressive, great ball instincts and can capitalize on poorly thrown balls. What will cause him to drop in the draft is his size (5-10, 181lbs) and lack of elite speed(4.6 40) which causes him to need safety help.

6)John Skelton QB- Skelton is an NFL QB. At 6-5 250 lbs he is huge. He lacks accuracy but he has great footwork and a cannon for an arm. If he is not trusted into the starting line up, sits behind Garrard and works on his accuracy he could be a great future starting QB.

7)Bo McNally SS- McNally has led the Stanford D in Tackles the last 2 seasons. What McNally lacks in athletic ability he makes up with his toughness and aggressive play. He has the size to play SS at 6-0 208lbs but his speed will drop him to the 7th rd(4.68 40).

I had a HELL of a time at the Pro Bowl. The AFC team entered and exited the field right under my feat. I yelled Drewwwww look up, he did and saw me, same for Garrard he saw me. Shulla saw me, Peyton Saw me and most of all Jaxson de Ville stood and ponder at me awhile and seemed a bit in fear as he did not understand what my Jaguar skulls stood for. So Jaxson de Ville when you read this never fear, The triangulated skulls represent the doorway to Jagland. Jagland is a location for Jaguar souls to go and Hellmet Head is the keeper of Jagland.

Scouting Report: Dan LeFevour

Quick Take: One of the quarterbacks that caught my attention at the Senior Bowl was Dan LeFevour. Though he came into the game as the 3rd-string QB for the North, he had a solid game going 5 of 10 passing, for 97 yards, one passing TD, 12 rushing yards and a rushing TD. This performance, although not lights out, got me more interested in this QB out of Central Michigan.

Interview with LeFevour:

Senior Bowl profile: Dan LeFevour (via ChicagoTribune)

Scouting Report: Dan LeFevour is slowly rising on teams' draft boards after a solid performance at the Senior Bowl where he was named the North's Most Outstanding Player. Currently, Mel Kiper ranks him #5 on his QB list, and NFL Draft Scout ranks him #6. LeFevour has the body to be effective at the next level standing at 6-3 and weighing in at 229 lbs. His speed and great ability to scramble and break a big run is impressive and led to his 15 rushing TDs in 2009.

LeFevour though is also a quality passer. In the 2009 season he completed an impressive 69.7% of his passing and threw only 7 interceptions all season. LeFevour is not just a one year wonder either, he consistently put up quality numbers over his four year collegiate career, amassing a total of 12,905 yards passing and 102 passing TDs. The drawbacks to LeFevour are his inexperience with the pro-style offense and he seems to have average arm strength. In the interview that I posted above, he seems like a decent guy as well. He seems to understand where he his weaknesses are (pro-style offense) and seems willing to try and improve. His Senior Bowl performace though showed many scouts that he can handle the pro-style offense a lot better then most originally thought and if he has a good performance at his Pro-Day and Combine, LeFevour might see himself rocketing up draft boards.

Projected Round: Early to mid 3rd

Possible Jaguar?: The Jaguars are seemingly in a perfect situation to draft LeFevour. With his draft stock around the 3rd-round, and the Jaguars obviously on the hunt for a young QB to take the reins from David Garrard, LeFevour might be a perfect option at the 10th/11th spot of the 3rd round. LeFevour would most likely offer both value and
need at this spot and would allow the Jaguars to groom a young QB on the bench for a year or two while David continues to take the starting role.

    - Kterr

Why Fred Taylor isn't an All Pro

Okay, so at first I was pretty peeved when Fred Taylor was not named as an All Pro for this last decade. I kept wondering why Fred wasn't named and Jamal Lewis was. I can understand why Tomlinson, James, and Alexander were choosen, they were better, but Lewis? I love looking at and comparing stats, when I compared the two players I saw that Jamal Lewis' stat line for the last 10 years looks like this,

Rushing Yards: 10607

4.2 yard, avg 58 TDs

Receiving Yards: 1879

8.5 yard, avg 4 TDs

He did all that in 131 games with 126 starts. Now check out Fred's line.

Rushing Yards: 9585

4.6 yard avg, 46 TDs

Receiving Yards: 1874 8.0 yard avg, 5 TDs

During this span Fred played in 121 games with 115 starts. Keep in mind that 5 of those games he did not start in were with the Patriots.

Even though the stats are in favor of Jamal, I am a Jag Homer and call me crazy but Fred Taylor was a better player than Jamal was. If it was not for the injuries Fred would have been ahead. I think he should have gotten the All Pro stamp but oh well, there's always the Hall of Fame.

Jaguars Final Draft Summary at SBN's MockingtheDraft.com

After a tedious 7th round mock draft performed at MockingtheDraft.com, it is over at least for now. I inherited the job as representative of the Jaguars after the 3rd round. I hope to be the representative again when the next mock draft comes.

Representatives came from other SBN blogs and where fans of their teams. I offer thanks to AngelsColts and JP 23, Colt and Dolphin fans respectively. More over the Jump.

Trades:

Dexter Mccluster C.J. Wilson Barry Church

My personal Grade for this draft:

B, Dez Byrant is not a need and shouldn't have been selected thus drops the grade down a letter. Drafting defensive players later instead of earlier also hurt. However, getting Mccluster and others were big.

Senior Bowl Thoughts

The Jaguars are a team full of a couple glaring needs on defense, but a quarterback, late round reciever, defensive tackle (preferably later round), defensive end, saftey, back up running back, guard/center, and possibly another corner. Basically for the 10' Jaguars anything goes. So in this case I give my thoughts on the senior Bowl.

-Zac Robinson had a fantastic first pass to another guy who has had a good game or Jeremy Williams out of Tulane, who looks to be a great late round guy. But a nice hard spiral that was well trhown deep.

- Taylor Mays looks like Sean Taylor, but even though he has a pick he tackles like Reggie Nelson, so hes a no no draft pick. Larry Asante, the saftey from Nebraska just gave up a touchdown pass that was well thrown to Collin Peek the tight end by guess who? Zac Robinson. I'm really liking what I'm seeing from him. He should get some more time in the second half.

- Ben Grahman the defense end did a great job, looked like Dwight Freeney. Also the Tennesse DT, who Kris Jenkins supported in the halftime show looked really solid, and could probably be a 2nd-3rd round pick.

- Speaking of safteys, one guy who was all over the field in the first half was Terrence Skinner from University of Maryland. He made sound tackles and was probably the opposite of Reggie Nelson. Myron Rolle on the other hand looked smaller then I remembered.

-Tim Tebow just verfied to me that he will not be a good quarterback. He threw the ball weakly, which is also was concerning for Tony Pike who played well, but did not throw the ball too well. On the other hand Robinson and Jared Brown threw the ball very hard but in the case of Brown he overthrew many revievers.

- Mike Upati, the highly coveted guard from Idaho, did not look that good. He held on many occasions and did not play that well. I was not that impressed.

-Marty Gillard showed sparks of speed, but he should be gone before any Jaguar pick, and is not good enough to be there first round pick.

- Linebackers Sean Witherspoon and Washington out of Texas Tech looked very good in the game.

-Dekota Watson did a great job just chasing down the Fresno State running back Miller. I liked Miller until he was stopped on forth and one.

-Theres Graham again. Jezz this kid is everywhere.

-Andre Roberts a great catch. He has some impressive speed. Great throw by Robinson again. I really like this kid.

- Graham again. Sack and a force fumble. Robinson shouldve gotten rid of the ball.

-My high school was just on a Under Armour commerical, and we're a public school.

- LeFevour had his first pass tipped. Almost intercepted by Patrick Robinson. Speaking of Patrick Robinson, hes another guy whos been all over the field. LeFevour I was excited to see, but he looks a little too small.

- Wow. Arenas had a really beautiful return. But he ran out of speed. Decent corner. But still a great return.

-Robinson a bit behind on the pass. Then hits another pass to Julius Williams ruled incomplete, but it was definately completed. Jacoby Ford a nice return. I'm liking the option that Robinson gives as a 3rd-5th round draft pick.

-LeGarret Blount just seems to lack NFL Speed along with some other of the backs in the game. But he just trucked the safety Coleman on the run. That was impressive.

-Nice scramble by LeFevour, getting a first down. Throws a short one on a play action pass, but thats what hes used to.

-I just think LeFevour is too small. The only two QB's I like in this game are Pike and Robinson, and maybe Jarred Brown. They are the only ones that seem to possess the "zip" that good QB's have.

-Unfortunately Tim Tebow is back in at quarterback. Ben Graham almost sacked him. Wow. I REALLY like Graham.

-Larry Asante had a great hit forcing a fumble, but he goofed big time on the earlier touchdown.

-Good catch by the Jacoby Ford, but a penalty call brings it back.

-Gilyard makes a deep reception. But I think that it was more a week coverage. The corner Linely had poor reaction. I disagree with Mike Mayock and Charles Davis. Both of them seem to think LeFevour will be a good 2nd or 3rd round pick, which i disagree with.

- Dekota Watson does a great job penetrating the offensive line and stopping the 3rd down run. Taylor Mays is getting exciting about hitting a QB. I'm not liking Mays that much either.

-Nice run by Ben Tate. Got a nice back from the multi postion Bynes. I like Bynes as a center replacement to Meester for Jacksonville.

-Jeremy Williams again. This kid has been really consistant today as a wide reviever. Like him too. However, he just dropped a pass.

-Tebow just fumbled. Koha Misi, a linebacker from Utah had a nice play on the ball. As I predicted, Tim Tebow will not be able to run in the NFL.

-Gilyard just burned Arenas for a touchdown, and LeFevour threw a nice pass. Still hes small and lacking that "zip". If Gilyards aviablable in the 2nd round (with a Jacksonville trade) or the third I would take him.

- Tebow fumbled again. Then dumped it off for a yard. I really dont like him. Ben Graham pressured Tebow. 3 and out.

- I think LeFevour will be a solid backup QB. Nothing more though.

-Correction: its Bradnon Graham, reminds me ALOT of Dwight Freeny. I would take him with the 10th or 11th pick. But i have a feeling he'll be available later.

-Robinsons back in, and the ball slipped out but recovers his fumble. Jeremy Williams another 1st down catch. He's having a fantastic day.

-Robinson took off, and Brandon Graham chased him down for a 5 yard game. Graham showed some speed. Nice Screen. Robinson is putting together a nice drive. Though he was just intercepted by Witherspoon. Not a good decision by Robinson.

- Jared Brown to Jeremy Williams. Notice another pass to Jeremy Williams. This guy is a late round reciever that seems like a Gene Smith guy.

- Another interception. And the North takes a knee. Guess who was the MVP? Brandon Graham.

If I could take just players from this draft from this game for the Jaguars heres what I would do:

First Round: Trade down select DE Ben Graham.

Second Round (aquired in trade): CB Patrick Robinson

Third Round: LB Dakota Washington

Fourth Round: C/G USC's Byers

Fifth Round: QB Zac Robinson

Sixth Round: WR Jeremy Williams

Seventh Round: S Terrance Skinner

My scientific draft poll

Setting aside scenarios mentioned in jaggernaut's previous post (trade down or trade Henderson, etc.) I took a sampling of 10 mock drafts. These are the combined results:

These players should definitely be off the board come time for the Jags to select-

N. Suh, E. Berry, G. McCoy, R. Okung, J. Haden, J. Claussen, S. Bradford, & A. Davis. Possibly added to this list is D. Bryant & C. Dunlap. Bruce Campbell popped up a few times here, too.

With the exception of Davis, Bryant, Dunlap & Campbell, should any of the above fall to us, I would think they'll be selected by us (BAP).

The most selected draft choice for the Jags is Tim Tebow (4), the next most selected was Derrick Morgan (3), then Jason Pierre-Paul (2).

Taylor Mays and Rolando McClain are in the vicinity.

These are not my selections, just statistically how they fell. Personally, I'm in favor of getting our second round pick back, however Gene can make it happen.

Best case scenario for the draft

If Jacksonville could trade down from 10th or 11th spot in the first round with the Patriots, who have the 22nd pick in the first round and the 12th, 15th, and 21st in the second round( I know, unreal). Maybe they would give us their first round and one of their 2nd rounders to move up and get a top 10 player and still have 2 second rounders. The Jags would then have the 22nd pick to get the best player available and if say, they get the 12th or 15th pick in the second round and take Tebow if he's still around, which is a possibility. I haven't been a big proponent of drafting Tebow, but it would be worth a second round pick to see how much effect he would have on the fanbase, and even if he is gone already, we have recovered the second rounder we traded for Cox, a worthwhile trade, while avoiding having to pay a top ten signee. At 22nd, we should be able to get a starter to fill one of several holes. I must be a draft nerd because I heard on the radio that there was 88 days to the draft and actually got excited.

Scouting the North and South Team (Day 2)

This is my first scout post on here. I hope I did well and everyone enjoys it.

NORTH:

QB) Tony Pike (Cincinnati)- continued his struggles on Tuesday. Had trouble throwing the deep-outs. However, Jacoby ford was able to make an acrobatic catch and bring one in, that was way over his head.

QB) Sean Canfield (Oregon State)- has worked more under center then the other two QB’s. However, they did not show much of him at practice.

QB) Dan Lefevour- (Central Michigan) has looked the best of all three QB’s. He made a nice pass on a bee-line deep post to WR Demario Alexander (Missouri)

RB) They didn’t show a whole lot of the RB’s. What they did show, was how well the RB’s could block a LB coming in. The only one that did well enough worth mentioning was Joique Bell (Wayne State; DI AA player of the year)

Legarrette Blount (Oregon), Rashawn Jackson (Virginia), Lonyae Miller (FS)- all struggled at this drill.

WR) Mardy Gilyard (Cincinnati)- has looked sick here. He was badly beaten the Jams and got great separation.

Jacoby Ford (Clemson)- has looked and been able to make the acrobatic catches, however his size put him at a disadvantage against a towering DB.

Taylor Price (Ohio)- seems to look confused at time on how to run a route. On an out route, I noticed he turned the wrong way and lost his footing. (Imagine that)

TE) Ed Dickson (Oregon)- looked good, displayed nice hands and crisp routes.

Mike Hoomanawanui (Illinois)- looked big and physical, was still able to make the catch with the LB draped all over him.

OL) Mike Iupati (G-Idaho)- Looked like a men amongst boys at the RG position. They tried him at LT, and it failed miserably. He looked uncomfortable having to move his feet that much in space. DE Alex Carrington (Arkansas State) beat Iupati both times Iupati was at Tackle. Also, DE Tyson Alualu (CAL) threw Iupati to the ground when Iupati was at tackle as well. This Tyson kid looked impressive, showing great strength.

Zane Beadles (T-Utah)- Looked like gabage (with no ‘r’.) DE Alex Carrington (Arkansas State) bull rushed him TWICE and drove him straight back. Also, DE Brandon Graham (Michigan) owned him and beat him both times to the outside.

Vladimir Ducasse (T-UMASS)- is best suited at RT. Brandon Graham (DE/OLB-Michigan) beat him once to the inside, with a swim move. The next one, Ducasse owned Brandon. 1-1. DE D’anthony Smith (LA TECH; Keep an eye on this kid)- beat Ducasse both times Ducasse was at G. Ducasse had no power step, looked like he was almost trying to play Tackle at the G position. Smith showed a nice inside move and beat Ducasse both times.

Shawn Lauvao (G-ASU)- showed great technique when Jerrod Odrick (DT-Penn State) tried a swim and spin move on Lauvao, and was able to sustain his ground. Lauvao won both.

Eric Olsen (C-ND)- Olsen is having nightmares after Mike Deal (DT-Purdue) bull rushed him straight back both times into the QB. 2-0 Neal. DT Cam Thomas bull-rushed Olsen and olsen gave up a little ground, but did a decent job. Next one, Cam owned Eric with a great spin move.

Matt Tennant (C-BC; My favorite OL men)- came off the ball and lunged at DT Cam Thomas (North Carolina) and Cam hit a swim move on him, however Matt was able to re-cover and after giving up a little ground, and won the battle. 2-0 Tennant. DE Tyson (CAL) killed Tennant (who was at guard) with a swim move, however the next time Tyson tried to bull-rush, and had no success. 1-1.

Ed Wang (T-VT)- Wang was slow off the ball and did not display good technique and balance. DE Austin Lane (Murray State) had good explosion, and got around Wang with an inside move AND then the next one, he straight up bull rushed Wang. Lane 2-0

Sam Young (T-ND)- was VERY impressive. Looks raw, but has great strength. Manhandled DE Tyson (CAL) both times and won both.

CB’s) Syd’Quan Thompson (CB-CAL) struggled on the deep routes with the WR’s, however owned any WR running a short route.

Kyle Wilson (CB-Boise State) blanketed and owend any WR that lined up against him.

Brandon Ghee (CB-Wake Forrest) ran with every WR and showed great awareness.

SOUTH:

QB)

Tim Tebow (UF) the cameras were focused on him for half the practice. Didn’t get to see to much of WR’s OR RB’s. Tebow is still working and looking better at dropping back in the 5 and 7 step drop. (Of course, still awful mechanics and still pushes the ball) But, had a much better day today. Looked good on the few bootlegs he did, hitting the WR’s in stride.

Zach Robinson (OK ST)- In my opinion looked the best. Got the ball out of his hands quick, and looked more confortable in the 5 and 7 step drops then any other QB.

Jarrette Brown (WV)- Um… Pat White but fatter anyone? They didn’t show much of him, at all.

WR)

Shay Hodge (Ole Miss)- looked very impressive. Was able to get separation and make nice catches. Turned a few heads.

Dexter Mccluster (Ole Miss) stole the show as he played some WR and RB. At WR did a stop and go route and left Javier Arenas in quicksand. Mccluster also laid-out and caught a pass from the Messiah (Aka, Tim).

Riley Cooper (UF)- looked good today. Struggled at times with the Jam, but was still able to make the catch. Had a few drops, but nothing big.

Joe Webb (UAB; transitioning from QB)- is big and physical. DB’s are having a hard time covering his big frame. Keep an eye on him, will be interesting.

DL/OL)

Geno Atkins (DT-Georgia) Owned Mitch Petrus (G-Arkansas) who reached for geno, and geno showed his speed and got around him. 2-0 Geno

Brandon Lang (DE Troy) vs. Ciron Black (T-LSU)- Black owned Lang on both of these. Lang only bull-rushed, nothing special. Ciron 2-0

Antonio Coleman (DE Auburn)- vs. Chris Scott (T- Tennessee)- Antonio had a nice inside move, and one the first one. Scott recovered and won round 2. 1-1

Dan Williams (DT- Tenn) vs. John Jerry (RG- Ole Miss) Jerry looked VERY impressive and owned Dan on both tries. Dan had nothing special and only displayed his bull-rush, which got him no where with Jerry. (Keep an eye on Jerry, he will shoot up draft boards) Jerry 2-0

Fat Cody (NT-ALA) vs. J.D. Walton (C-Baylor)- Will all 370 lbs going forward in one on one against Walton, its safe to say that cody won both, easily. Cody 2-0

Jeff Owens (DT-Georgia) vs. Jeff Byers (G-USC)- Byers owned ownes on both drills and even pan caked him on the last one. Byers looks good as well. Byers 2-0

(WELL, THAT’S IT FOR THE SOUTH, THEY DIDN’T SHOW MUCH OUTSIDE OF TEBOW, HOPEFULLY TOMORROW I WILL HAVE MORE)

Also, Jags had a formal interview with Geno Atkins and LeGarrette Blount.

Jags also worked a little with J.D Walton (Center from Baylor)

The history of the Jaguars 1st rd picks

Earlier in the week Zoltan wrote an article at Black and Teal on how the Jaguars cannot afford to miss on their next draft pick. It was a great article and I hope everyone got a chance to read it. Anyway, for fun I decided to compare all 15 1st round picks throughout the teams history. I'll start with our first ever pick in 1995 and end it with Eugene. Hope you in enjoy. To be honest, I am not too impressed overall with the choices we have made.

1995 the Jaguars select OT Tony Boselli from USC.

Everyone loved this guy. He is without a doubt the best to ever play the position for the Jaguars and maybe the entire NFL. He was a beast at 6-7 and 322 pounds. He gave us 8 great years and if it wasn't for injuries and the ship off to the Texans it is conceivable that he could still be in the league right now. We love him so much that he is forever enshrined on our Ring of Honor. This was a good pick.

1996 the Jaguars select LB Kevin Hardy from Illinois.

I liked Kevin. I thought that he was a great player for our team and I still remember his monster 99 season where he was a sack monster with 10.5. In total we got 28 sacks in 6 years out of him. Not too shabby. On a side note he was the guy I liked to control when I played Madden 99. I always wished that we could have gotten more years from him but still he was a good pick. Tony Brackens was the 2nd pick this year and we all liked him too.

1997 the Jaguars select DE Renaldo Wynn from Notre Dame

Renaldo played 5 seasons for the Jags and had decent stats but nothing spectacular. If you look at his yearly sack totals for his first 2 years you will see a resemblance to Derrick Harvey. I Don't think his production was worth the pick so I rate him as a bad pick for the 1st RD but not a bad player overall.

1998 the Jaguars select RB Fred Taylor from Florida.

Our home town hero. Without a doubt the very best draft pick this team has made so far. MJD can make an argument but for now the honor goes to Fred. You all know the stats and what he has meant on and off the field to the organization and the city. He is the one player in Jaguars history who has a Hall of Fame resume. Tomorrow he turns 34 and he is still at it. Fred Taylor is still the face of the Jags and they get an A+ for taking him. By the way we took Donavan Darius with our 2nd pick here.

1999 the Jaguars select CB Fernando Bryant from Alabama.

He gave the Jags 5 interceptions in 5 years. I am not going to get into to deep with him. How he managed to stay in the league for 10 seasons is a mystery to me. This one goes down as a bad pick in my book. This whole draft was bad.

2000 the Jaguars select WR R Jay Soward from USC.

Yikes! Next please. We did get Brad Meester with the next pick though.

2001 the Jaguars select DT Marcus Stroud from Georgia.

Part 1 of the best defensive tackle tandem I have ever seen. This guy was a massive mammoth who swallowed up runners and opened up sack lanes for teammates. He was everything you could want from your #1 pick. If it wasn't for injuries he would still be with the team and we would not have used the picks we got for him to make future bad picks. We also got Mo Williams in this draft. Marcuse Stroud was a good pick.

2002 the Jaguars select DT John Henderson from Tennessee.

Part 2 of the defensive wall. Alongside Marcus Stroud, John Henderson plowed his way through offensive lines. Henderson just might be the best defensive player the Jaguars have drafted to date. There are other guys on the team who have an argument but my money is on Big John. He is still doing it today for us. Just not as well. He was a great pick without a doubt. David Garrard was also taken in this draft.

2003 the Jaguars select QB Byron Leftwich from Marshall.

Mark Brunells' heir apparent. He was drafted to be the long term fixture at QB but he could not stay on the field long enough to ever earn that spot. He was doomed from the start. A Shack Harris failure. No one liked his mechanics, he was too slow, and what was up with that crazy wind up he had. He seemed like a nice guy but because of him we passed on Roethleburger the next year. Sorry Byron, you were a bad pick. This was a good draft though because we also took Mathis and Manuwai with the 2nd and 3rd picks.

2004 the Jaguars select WR Reggie Williams from Washington.

Shack Harris figured that he had Brunells replacement so he might as well get Jimmy Smiths replacement while he was at it. Let's see what did Reggie contribute to this team? No 1000 yard seasons. In fact he couldn't even break 700 yards. He somehow managed to catch 10 TD's in 07 but that was just a mirage. Who else was Garrard going to throw to? He was a problem guy off the field and I did not like his effort at all. The only thing Reggie gave this team was a bunch of ridiculous gyrating dances after he caught 3 yard passes. Reggie was a bad pick. This was an overall good draft though. We got Daryl Smith, Greg Jones, Earnest Wilford, and Scooby Doo.

2005 the Jaguars select WR Matt Jones from Arkansas.

I hated this pick. Typical Shack Harris. He loved the tall receivers didn't he? I mean come on, why would you waste such a high pick on a guy who was making such a dramatic position change. People raved over his athleticism. Jones was said to have freakish speed on the field but it turns out he was just a freak on the field. He looked very disinterested when he played and if it was not for the fact that he was playing for his professional life in 08 he never would have produced like he did that year. He may have eventually panned out but the cocaine and Gene smith took care of that. Matt was a waste of a pick but a slightly better upgrade over Reggie Williams.

2006 the Jaguars select TE Mercedes Lewis from UCLA.

Shack was looking for weapons for Bryon here. Lewis was supposed to be a pass catching machine coming out of college. The word was that he couldn't block either. I wasn't too big on this pick at first but Lewis has slowly changed my view of him. The guy is tough and he can block afterall. Not to mention that he had some great catches this season. The arrow is pointing up for Lewis and I do not think that we have seen his best yet. I like this pick now. Oh by the way, our new franchise player was taken with our 2nd pick in this draft. You know him, you love him! MJD!

2007 the Jaguars select FS Reggie Nelson from Florida.

After a strong rookie season the Eraser has seriously dropped off. He looks confused out there doesn't he? He plays out of position and his tackling is at a pop warner level. No one will doubt that he has the physical tools to play at this level but now we question whether or not he has the mental tools to go along with it. Nelson is running out of time in Jacksonville. So far not a good pick. Other notable picks in this draft include Durant, Sims-Walker, Uche, and everyone's favorite 4th round pick Adam Podlesh.

2008 the Jaguars trade the world to select DE Derrick Harvey from Florida.

This is a perfect example of a need pick. Shack Harris and I guess all of us were sold on the idea that a pass rush was the last missing piece to a Super Bowl. We were wrong. The jury is still out on Derrick but he does show promise. He has got to up his sack total or he will be labeled bust. For now he is not a bad pick but we gave up too much to get him. Oh we also got Quentin Groves in this draft but at this point no one cares.

2009 the Jaguars select OT Eugene Monroe from Virginia.

This is just the opposite. This is a great example of best available player. Not only was he the BAP but he is going to fill the left tackle position for the next decade. His rookie season is over and he improved throughout the year. I think he was a good pick, in fact this whole draft was the best this team has had to date. A few more like this one and the Jaguars will be the team to beat for the next 5-10 years.

In my opinion that makes 8 good picks and 7 bad picks. That means that we have hit on 53% of our 1st picks. That is not so great. This team has to strike gold in the future for them to be successful and start selling more tickets to all those fans out there who only buy when the team is winning.

Take it easy everyone.

- Jon

Tebow's stock falling?

I just got done reading an article about Tim Tebow's performance in the Senior Bowl these past few days. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/blog/dr_saturday/post/Tim-Tebow-meets-his-worst-career-fears-in-Senior?urn=ncaaf,215726. Tebow apparently had a very poor performace over the last few days with botched snaps and numerous fumbles to go along with his technique which is already highly criticized. With this poor performance, excluding the chance he has a amazing Combine, I personally think that the question of whether or not the Jaguars will draft Tebow at 10/11 spot has been answered with a resounding NO. If he had put on a good showing and had impressed some scouts then I think the Jaguars might have had a stickier situation but now I believe there is no way the Jaguars can draft him in the first round without looking like fools. Personally though this poor showing may have been a good thing for the Jaguars because Tebows stock as a QB is obviously dropping. If the Jaguars didnt draft him in the first, it was looking like Tebow would be a second round pick but now he might have dropped even further. That means that the Jaguars might actually have a shot to draft Tebow in the 3rd round. Now personally Im OK with spending a third round pick on Tebow. Any thoughts?

The big "What if?"....

I was posed this question by a friend of mine that is an Eagles fan. So I figured I would ask it here in Jaguars heaven and see what my fellow fans thought.

If the Jaguars move to L.A. as some have speculated, or anywhere else for that matter, do you still stick with them as your team or do they become dead to you?

Reasoning that you would stick with them till Jacksonville got another team isn't an option because the likely hood of that happening is zero.

Kennedy Pola makes Lateral move,Signs with Titans

The Titans hired running backs coach Kennedy Pola from the AFC South rival Jaguars on Monday.

Pola replaces Earnest Byner, who was fired over the weekend. Byner spent two seasons on the Titans’ staff.

Pola spent the last five seasons in Jacksonville, and Fred Taylor (2008) and Maurice Jones-Drew (2010) earned Pro Bowl honors during the coach’s time there. The Jaguars also totaled the third-most rushing yards in the NFL over that time.

“Kennedy is a fine coach, and I am very much looking forward to working with him to see the contributions that he can add to our staff,” Titans coach Jeff Fisher said in a statement released by the team. “He did a great job with the running backs down in Jacksonville and he had an instrumental role in their run game.”

Pola has 18 years of coaching experience, including 12 seasons as a college coach and one year with the Browns (2004).

Next Freeney?

I know we've had some trouble with the tweeners, so to speak, at the DE position. However I think I've just found someone that could come out of nowhere in the near future. And like many of Gene Smith picks, he's out of a small school; Stillman. Yeah, the same school Brian Witherspoon came from. I imagine it wont be much longer before their football program will start getting some more national recognition.

Anyhow he's a smaller player at only 255lbs, but he's only about 6'2" which makes him about Dwight Freeney's size. And if I didn't know any better, from watching his highlights, I would think they were the same person. He might still be a better 34 OLB prospect, but I would really like to see him in teal regardless of scheme!

Can't believe I went this long without saying his name: Junior Galette

Keep an eye out for him. Seriously!

Jets and the Jaguars: why they are alike

Remember the good ole days, back when went up to pittsburgh and beat them, Twice, in the snow. Man what a team, well i guess when the jags fell off the pedastal i think we might have gave the torch to the NEW YORK JETS. Why???? b/c they pretty imitate a great deal of what we did back then. With the exceptions that there was not really a wildcat back then and the fact that we did not have a rookie at quarterbacak (Garrard could have been considered one back then). This team reminds me so much of what we did in 2007.

On the deffensive side of the ball, the SWAGGER that the jets have right now was evident in that year for us. Now, the schemes were vastly different and the style of head coaches is totally different, but the attitude is there. It was there for the Baltimore Ravens back in their super bowl year ( rex ryan coached d line).Rexs deffense is extremly aggresive and ours was more conservative.

Offensivley, we had our two pronged attack with FRED TAYLOR AND MJD while the jets have SHONNE GREEN AND THOMAS JONES RUNNING THE SHOW. But another thing are the offensive lines. We had one hell of an offensive line in 2007 (although not as good as the jets) but the holes they gave not only our running backs but our querterback too (thinking of THE PLAY when GARRARD ran a QB draw to put us in field goal position to win the game).

Id like too hear your thoughts on the jets, how far they can go (not much left really) and other comparisons u can think of.

Kampman anyone?

One of the big topics this off season will undoubtedly be the need for a pass rush, with many people saying we need to draft a DE, I however disagree. Greenbay DE Aaron Kampman is a F.A. this season and with him not fitting in the 3-4 in Greenbay he would fit PERFECTLY in our 4-3 defense, a defense he was made for. The guy has serious skill when he has his hand in the turf, he is a DE that is made for the pass rush, not dropping back in coverage like he was this pass season in Greenbay. Now he did screw up his knee this season but he should be 100% by the 2010 season. Kampman has great character, is a team player, and has the skill we need and thats proven skill. If we draft a DE its up in the air if they are as good as they were in colledge. Yes I know DE and all players need to start somewhere, but I'm just saying that there is a great DE out there in F.A that would fit this team perfectly why not gab him?

Diamonds in the Rough: Offensive Gems

Alright, I wanted to give BCC readers a update of a little thing i've been working on. Its for the Draft, and talks about some players that are not well known or under-the-radar but can play some football. I listed the players by the newly updated rankings given at MockingTheDraft.com. The sentences inside the block in italics are my own comments, just a heads-up.

Upon talking about these guys, I would really love to hear about some other people who could fall in later rounds yet play at a level much higher than the round they are projected to play. The descriptions of the players will also come from MockingTheDraft.com.

The point of this fanpost is to show value later in the draft and to highlight players worth waiting for. Another point is to help the reader familiarize themselves with these players, if you already of some of these guys then my job is alot easier. Enjoy.

QB

7th best QB Tony Pike | 6'6, 230 pounds | Cincinnati

Pike has deceptive quickness and athleticism, which he uses nicely in the pocket to elude the pass rush. He has good presence and doesn't mind stepping up in pressure. Given his height and release point, Pike rarely gets passes knocked down. He's finally added weight to his frame this offseason, bulking up from 215 pounds. That should make him more durable. Puts a good zip on his passes and can place them in tight spots. Always keeps his eyes down field. If Pike can speed up the mental parts of the passing game -- reading defenses and getting rid of the ball quickly -- look out. This guy has impressed me so much. That instead of using a 1st for Bradford, or Mccoy, I'd use a late 2nd to mid 3rd for Pike. This guy can lead a team to victory week after week.

6th best QB Dan LeFevour | 6'3, 228 pounds | Central Michigan

At this point, LeFevour is kind of a poor man's Colt McCoy. He's a good dual threat player and was a sleeper Heisman Trophy candidate entering last season. Injuries held him back some, though. When he's healthy, LeFevour has a good release and can deliver the ball all over the field. He has a tendency to run too soon and will need to become more disciplined in his decision making. He's a lesser Mccoy in a better system, he could rise in value yet still get picked later because of the depth of the QB class. He could become great but who knows.

11th best QB John Skelton | 6'5, 256 pounds | Fordham

Skelton is the entire Fordham offense. He not only passes the ball proficiently, but he's a good runner. Skelton will have to make a good impression in the postseason against better talent. Against lower-division talent, he shows a very big arm and good accuracy. One of the newer QB prospects I've found out about. Has most of the tools you'd want. Playing at Fordham against lesser talent makes it risky but other small school prospects have overcomed it.

10th best QB Rusty Smith | 6'5, 230 pounds | Florida Atlantic

A tall quarterback who has the size to shake off some blitzers. Smith has an NFL arm and body. A shoulder injury hampered him last season. When completely healthy, he's shown the ability to throw the ball all over the field. Smith's delivery is irregular, but it works fine with his high release point. He does a nice job of leading the offense. Local Prospect for me, one of the knocks on him is that he has an injured shoulder, which he elected to let it heal naturally. His arm looks to be 100% and should provide some sleeper status.

RB

5th best RB Montario Hardesty | 6'0, 215 pounds | Tennessee

Finally, as a senior, Hardesty had the kind of season many were expecting of him. He's a big back with a lot of power and good quickness. He's a good one-cut runner with solid vision. Some compare him to Chris Johnson. I think he's a streaky RB with good speed. Probably would make a good #2 RB in a 2-RB team.

7th best RB Toby Gerhart | 6'1, 235 pounds | Stanford

A big bruising work horse back, Gerhart should get a shot at the next level as part of a tandem back field. He has solid short-area quickness. Displays good patience waiting for blocks to open up. Doesn't have great speed and he runs too upright between the tackles. Not much of a receiving threat. Power runner, maybe a Lendale White-ish player. Shouldn't be a #1 RB but could be an interesting #2 or 3rd down back.

8th best RB Ben Tate | 5'11, 217 pounds | Auburn

Tate is a tough running back and does a really good job of keeping his pads low. He's at best going in-between the tackles. Keeps his shoulders square to the line while running and is a classic north-south runner. Doesn't get much separation on the second level. Ask Bestjagsfan. He's under-rated as a RB. Auburn has been pumping out some great RBs, Ronnie Brown/Cadillac Williams (when they aren't hurt).

9th best RB Anthony Dixon | 6'1, 235 pounds | Mississippi State

Dixon is one of the few big backs with ability that will be in the 2010 NFL Draft. Because of that, he has some extra value. Helping his cause is a good first step and good vision into the hole. He doesn't have a lot of elusiveness but can break tackles. Big Back with some dominance. A Reuben Droughns runningback when he was at his peak in Cleveland, perhaps?

10th best RB Andre Anderson | 5'11, 212 pounds | Tulane

Anderson is a good all-around running back. He's got good enough size to work inside and enough quickness to elude defenders in the open field. His speed isn't all that great, but he gets by. Anderson gets such high grades because he is an excellent receiving option and runs crisp routes. Poor man's all-around RB, catches the ball well along with running. Rashad Jennings 2.0

WR

8th best WR Mardy Gilyard | 6'0, 185 pounds | Cincinnati

A slender athletic receiver, Gilyard showed in 2009 that he was a great leader. Gilyard and more than 80 receptions and 1,000 yards receiving in consecutive seasons. Pretty impressive considering he was living in his car earlier this decade. His size might prohibit him from being a No. 1 receiver, but Gilyard displays solid route running and agility. Josh Cribbs' love child. Gilyard can play many roles and should be a playmaker. Good Production.

12th best WR Jeremy Williams | 6'1, 205 pounds | Tulane

When healthy, Williams is an excellent possession receiver. He played in five games last season, averaging 87 receiving yards per contest, before breaking his hand and missing the rest of the season. Williams shows good hands and can make people miss after catching the ball. He's also a very good kick returner. Elusive reciever, runs with fluid motions. YAC is what makes him attractive. Eddie Royal/Rod Smith-esque.

18th best WR Blair White | 6'2, 200 pounds | Michigan State

White, a former walk-on, has excellent hands and doesn't mind going over the middle. Those traits will earn him a spot in the NFL. He was by far Michigan State's top receiver in 2009 with 70 receptions for 990 yards and nine touchdowns. Truely a gem. Agressive and Physical, Blair White is a hard worker when getting to the ball. Kinda reminds me of Derrick Mason.

14th best WR Antonio Brown | 5'10, 182 pounds | Central Michigan

Brown parlayed an excellent bowl game as a junior to a solid spot in the NFL Draft. He was often overlooked because of his size and because he played opposite Bryan Anderson. But make no mistake, Brown is a playmaker. His hands are good and he knows how to get open. There are always spots in the NFL for those type of players. Overlooked and on a remote team. Late-round prospect that has admirable traits. Can make the occasional big-time catch.

23rd best WR Kerry Meier | 6'3, 220 pounds | Kansas

Meier is a converted quarterback and a big target. He plays a lot like a tight end and doesn't have great speed. However, he can really attack the seam and has good hands. He's a solid third-down receiver. Good upside. Think of a poor man's Dallas Clark version of a WR.

TE

6th best TE Ed Dickson | 6'5, 243 pounds | Oregon

A natural athlete, Dickson is still working on the nuances of the position. He's a good quick-twitch athlete who gets off the line nicely. He easily makes plays over the top and has the ability to stretch defenses. If he can improve his physicality, especially when going up against athletic linebackers, he could move higher in these rankings. Remarkablely Health Miller-like

12th best TE Nate Byham | 6'3, 255 pounds | Pittsburgh

Byham has made his name at Pitt as a sound blocker in the running game. He's adequate enough in the passing game, but will really help a team in need of a blocking tight end. If he shows improvement in the receiving game, it's likely his stock could skyrocket. Great blocking TE, a style that has taken back seat to Recieving focus TE's. Good at all things blocking.

13th best TE Michael Hoomanawanui | 6'3, 270 pounds | Illinois

"Re-watching Illinois games this offseason, Hoomanawanui really sticks out. He plays a lot like Alge Crumpler. He's a big player with underrated athleticism and speed. He's a solid route runner, but shouldn't be used deep often. His size alone makes him a above-average blocker, but he needs to improve his technique." If anything, his name should make him get drafted, think of what they'll put on the back of his Jersey.

OT

12th best OT Jason Fox | 6'6, 314 pounds | Miami

"Fox is a converted tight end who displays a good first step to the outside. He moves to the second level well and locates and gets to defenders nicely. He's improving as a run blocker but clearly needs to continue working on his strength. Fox has some good tools, but must continue to work on the nuances of the position. He has some added value because of his versatility playing tackle and guard." Versatility is a plus.

14th best OT Ed Wang | 6'5, 310 pounds | Virginia Tech

"A converted tight end, Wang is one of the more athletic senior tackles in the nation. He's played both tackle positions showing continued improvement in all aspects. Where he needs to get much better is his physical play. If he becomes more of a mauler, he'll be a starter-level player." He can start, and you can get him later too.

OG

4th best OG Mitch Petrus | 6'5, 288 pounds | Arkansas

Petrus has only played one season at guard after playing fullback for Arkansas. That was 2007 when he was a second-team all-conference pick at left guard. He was academically ineligible last season. He'll play right guard this year. He's an excellent blocker on the move. What sets Petrus apart is his attitude. He's an aggressive player with a nasty demeanor and can intimidate opponents. Keyword: Hard-nosed

7th best OG Sergio Render | 6'3, 314 pounds | Virginia Tech

A lengthy, hard working interior lineman, Render excels in the run game. He consistently gets good hand positioning to move around defenders. Anchors well at the point of attack and can handle power rushers. Not an amazing athlete, but he's pretty good on the move. If he doesn't get hurt, he'll be a four-year starter at guard for Virginia Tech and is a two-time all-conference selection. Good blocking when it comes to either protecting the passer or leading the runner.

6th best OG John Jerry | 6'5, 350 pounds | Mississippi

While Jerry projects as a guard, he's in the tackle rankings because that's his collegiate position. He's a massive run blocker with surprising athleticism. He shows nimble feet and is above average on the move. He's not much of a tackle prospect because he doesn't manage speed rushers especially well. New prospect of mine, his whole thing is his run blocking prowess.

OC

5th best OC Ted Larsen | 6'2, 300 pounds | North Carolina State

"Larsen is a converted defensive tackle and has shown his versatility by playing both guard and center for the Wolfpack. He's an effort player with solid fundamentals. Larsen consistently stays low in his stance with his knees bent. He does a really good job with speed rushers and can redirect nicely. He's not much of a finisher in the running game, but he works hard." One of the guys i'ved eye-balled for a while.

4th best OC Eric Olsen | 6'4, 305 pounds | Notre Dame

"Olsen has successfully moved from guard to center as a senior and does a nice job handling the line audibles. He's a solid in-line blocker who can handle tackles on his own. Olsen might be best at guard, but he really doesn't do anything wrong as a center." Versatility in the Interior is good, but I think Ted Larsen is better.

6th best OC Chris Hall | 6'4, 300 pounds | Texas

Another versatile lineman, Hall has started every position along the front five. He's more of a finesse blocker who good length and flexibility. His footwork is ready for the NFL, but he needs to improve as a run blocker. Hall has a tendency to be static in his movement and gives up leverage. Needs work on technique but could turn out to be very useful for any team.
