2010 NFL Draft
Jaguars Scouting Locations This Week
UPDATE: The Jaguars will also be present at the San Diego State/Utah game.
Chris Steuber of Scout.com is reporting the Jaguars will have scouts in attendance at the following games
Nicholls St @ SE Louisiana
Florida International @ Florida
Minnesota @ Iowa
This marks the 5th time the Jaguars have had scouts attend a UF game, the most of any college team. The only team the Jaguars have had scouts present more than twice is FSU, which the Jaguars have seen three times.
This will be the second time the Jaguars have scouted Iowa, while this will be their first look at every other team. What players do you think they'll have their eyes on this week?

Jaguars send Director of Player Personnel to USF/Rutgers and send scouts to several other games this weekend
Chris Steuber of Scout.com is reporting the Jaguars will be sending Director of Player Personnel Terry McDonough to the USF-Rutgers game tonight.
In addition, scouts will be present at the following locations
Tennessee-Ole Miss
Florida State-Wake Forest
Illinois State-Youngstown State
I'm especially interested in the Illinois State-Youngstown State game. Any FCS fans know of players who we should have an eye on?
Edit: It is confirmed the Jaguars will be scouting Youngstown State WR Donald Jones.

Jaguars to send scouts to UF-Vanderbilt game this weekend
Per Scout.com, the Jaguars will have scouts in attendance at the Florida-Vanderbilt game this weekend. In addition, the Buccaneers, Cowboys, Rams, Chiefs, and Dolphins will have scouts in attendance.
Who will they be looking at? Tim Tebow is the obvious answer here, though there are plenty of other NFL prospects in the Orange and Blue.
Carlos Dunlap, DE-Dunlap is an incredibily gifted, though raw defensive end.
Joe Haden, CB-Haden has been looking good so far this year and may be the first corner taken in a draft where Safety's are stealing the secondary spotlight.
Brandon Spikes, LB-Probably the best 4-3 linebacker in the country right now. I believe he'll get the most looks from the Jags scouts of the big name prospects.
Mo Pouncey, G-A massive junior guard who may be the best interior lineman in the country. If he elects to come out he'll clearly be the best guard in the draft.
Anyone know of Vanderbilt players who the Jags may look at?

Revised Top 10 Prospects to Watch
The college football season is beginning to make it's home stretch run and it's time to once again look at players who may find themselves in Black and Teal this upcoming season. In an attempt to keep this is true to form as possible, main stays Ndumakong Suh and Eric Berry sadly make their departure as the Jaguars are not nearly bad enough to even sniff them in next April's draft.
The more I've been thinking about it, the more I think a quarterback make's sense in the first round of the draft. To that end, the current Top 10 to watch is as follows
1. Christian Ponder, QB, Florida State, Jr
Anyone who can stomach to watch a full game of FSU football this season will come away utterly impressed with Ponder. The Junior QB has made a light year's worth of advances since his troubled sophomore campaign. Behind a now solid offensive line, Ponder has light up the NCAA, ranking in the Top 5 of virtually every relevant stat against BCS competition. If Ponder declares, expect him to have a Mark Sanchez like rise.
2. Jake Locker, QB, Washington, Jr
I went back and forth between putting either Locker or Tony Pike of Cincinnati at the #2 spot. In the end, Pike is injured and Locker has more upside, so I went with Locker. Locker may be something of a project for a first round pick, but I like the grit I see from him. Also, the last time the Jaguars had a scrambling QB from Washington, it worked out well.
3. Morgan Burnett, SS, Georgia Tech, Jr
Burnett may be the 2nd best safety in the draft with Taylor Mays' inconsistency. A big, strong, hard hitting SS, Burnett would be the 2nd coming of Donovan Darius for the Jaguars. If a QB isn't available, he may be the BAP in the 15-20 range.
4. Rolando McClain, MLB, Alabama, Jr
If the Jags are going to keep running the 3-4, they'll need to upgrade their personnel this offseason. McClain is a beast of a linebacker and may be the best natural 3-4 linebacker in the draft. Another tough decision here between McClain and Brandon Spikes, but I felt McClain works better in a 3-4.
5. George Selvie, DE, South Florida, Sr
Was it really just two years ago Selvie was the most feared pass rusher in college football? Injuries and lack of production have forced him off the map and out of the first round. Selvie projects as a 3-4 OLB in the NFL and unless he has an excellent offseason, may slide into the third round.
6.Matt Tennant, C, Boston College, Sr
A quality guy with a high motor, Tennant would fit the Gene Smith profile. Brad Meester isn't getting any younger, and some fresh blood in the interior is needed. Tennant is a 4th or 5th round prospect.
7.Vince Oghobaase, DT, Duke, Sr
Oghobasse is one of the best DT in the country not named Suh or McCoy. He projects as either a 3-4 DE or a 4-3 defensive tackle. Henderson was linked to several trade rumors in the last offseason and his stock has risen since with his terrific play this season.Ogho would be an excellent replacement paired with Terrance Knighton.
8. Josh Pinkard, SS, Southern Cal,Sr
Pinkard can play both corner and safety, making him a versatile player for the Jaguars secondary. He has some medicial and injury issues that may cause him to drop and make him a value pick.
9. Mitch Petrus, G, Arkansas, Sr
Petrus is a solid guard who plays with a mean streak against the run. However, he is somewhat undersized and that could cause him to drop.
10. Dennis Pitta, TE, BYU, Sr
Pitta served on his two year mission, making him older and more mature than most rookies. He's one of the best receiving tight ends in college and would add another weapon on the team.

Revised Draft Prospect List:
With week three of the college football season in the books, time to revise who I'm looking at for the Jaguars to get next April, including a new #1.
1. Eric Berry, S, Tennessee
No player has impressed me more over the course of the first few weeks of the season as Eric Berry has. He's a smart, tough safety that can defend the pass and the run. Berry has been running Monte Kiffin's defense as if he was John Lynch and that's not hyperbole talking.
2. Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska
A big and powerful defensive tackle that is one of the few Cornhuskers worthy of being called a Blackshirt in some time. Suh has been having another stand out year for the Huskers this year, being almost Albert Haynesworth like in his ability to cause havoc from the DT spot.
3.Brandon Spikes, LB, Florida
If the Jaguars are in the bottom half of the first round, Spikes becomes an interesting target. He's an excellent 4-3 linebacker who would provide depth and competition no matter his position. This may be something of a pick of riches, but he'll most likely be the BAP.
4. Dan LaFevour, QB, Central Michigan
Even if the Jaguars have a successful season, Garrard is on the wrong end of 30 and the preseason has shown the back up QB spot is shaky. LaFevour is next in the line of MAC QB's that have included Ben Roethlisberger, Chad Pennington, and Byron Leftiwch. Depending on how LaFevour's season goes, he could be anywhere from a 1st to 3rd round candidate.
5. Jordan Shipley, WR, Texas
Shipley isn't a guy who jumps out at you from a physical stand point. He doesn't have the fastest 40 and he won't leap over tall buildings. However, he is a work horse and could be a solid possesion receiver in the NFL. Shipley is having another great season with the Longhorns as they look to make it to the BCS National Title game.
6. Myron Rolle, S, Florida State
Rolle will have been out of football for over a year, however, it would be for an excellent reason as he was studying at Oxford on a Rhodes Scholarship. Rolle was talented enough to be a unanimous first round selection in 2009 mock drafts, and he would be worth a flyer pick if he slipped into the 3rd round or beyond due to his absence from football.
7. Tony Pike, QB, CInncinati
Pike has a NFL arm and stands firm in the pocket. The big question mark right now is how can he do against better comeptition. Pike ranks third in I-A with an absurd 77% completion percentage.
8. Matt Tennant, C, Boston College
Brad Meester isn't getting any younger and the interior of the offensive line could use some of the youth movement that tackle position experienced this year. Tennant is a mid round prospect who plays with a mean streak and has a good motor. He is a perfect jar on the shelf type who could be ready to start after a year or two.
9. Ed Dickson, TE, Oregon
Dickson is an excellent pass catching tight end. His run blocking, not so much. Dickson is only about 240 lbs, so he'll have to get bigger if he wants to be a starting TE at the NFL level. However, he can use his pass catching skills to offset that for a season or two as he gets bigger and improves on his run blocking.
10. John Jerry, Guard, Ole Miss
Jerry is a late round prospect at Guard who is a heavy risk reward player. He has a great football IQ and has a mean streak you want in a linemen. However, he needs to lose weight, period. At 355, he is simply too heavy to play guard in the NFL. In addition, he'll need to overhaul his technique in order to successfully be a starter. Jerry is an excellent jar on the shelf player.

What would Tim Tebow mean for the Jacksonville Jaguars?
In case you haven't read the story on Wayne Weaver's comments regarding Tim Tebow, please click here.
Ever since Tim Tebow committed to the University of Florida, there has been talk that the Jaguars would eventually draft the local superstar. Now, that talk seems like a near certainty given Mr.Weaver's comments concerning Tebow, among other interactions he has had with the Gator QB.
There is no question that Tebow is a media darling and may be the most well known college athlete in the last fifty years. When next April comes, Tebow could bring with him three national championship rings, two Heisman Trophies, and a laundry list of magazine covers.
However, that doesn't mean anything if he can't be a good cog in the Jaguar machine. There are major questions about his mechanics and ability to adapt to the NFL game. There will be plenty of linebackers who would love to welcome Tim to the NFL next year.
What concerns me the most is
"The game is such an important part of this community, and Tebow is such an iconic figure that people would legitimately think, 'Wouldn't it be great if he was a Jaguar,'" team owner Wayne Weaver said. "I'd be silly to sit here and think that's not going to be a huge thing.
If there is one thing the Jaguars can't afford to start doing is let ticket sales begin to influence personnel decisions and that is exactly what is sounds like they could do. I would prefer not to think I was at the Florida-Georgia game when I attend a Jaguar game and that is exactly what could happen if Tebow is drafted.
Imagine seeing the stadium full, but half of it is Orange and Blue from the Gator fans there just to see Tebow. Is that any better than seeing "The Jack" full of Terrible Towels? In addition, what happens if Tebow flops out of the league? We sell out the stadium (and the team) for a year and then we're right back to square one without a real building block for the future.
I spoke with UF's ticket office, and they informed me that currently they have "over 15,000" season ticket holders from the Jacksonville area. Assuming none of them are currently Jaguar season ticket holders, that would mean that every UF season ticket holder in the Jacksonville area would also need to buy Jaguar tickets for the team to sell out.
If I am Gene Smith, I would walk into Weaver's office and say that unless Tebow is the best player on the Jaguar's board when they draft, he won't be drafted. No ifs, ands, or buts. In addition, I would ban the marketing and PR people from the discussion. The worst thing the Jaguars can do right now is make it seem like the team is just buying time to wait for April and take a messiah.
Mr.Weaver, be careful what you wish for, because it might come true.

An early look at Jaguar draft prospects
Is it ever too early to talk the draft? College football begins in full swing next week and to celebrate, here is a run down of possible future Jaguars.Considering BCC's current track record, that means none of these players will end up in Teal so take this with a grain of salt. However, here are the players I'll be keeping an eye on in 2009.
1. Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska
A big and powerful defensive tackle that is one of the few Cornhuskers worthy of being called a Blackshirt in some time. Suh may well be the best defensive linemen in the country and a sure target of the Jaguars if they fall into the early part of round one again.
2. Jevan Snead, QB, Ole Miss
Snead would be the other likely option for the Jaguars if they are picking in the Top 15 because I guarantee you if they're picking that high we will have a new head coach on Draft Weekend 2010. Sam Bradford will likely be the first QB gone while Snead is light years ahead of Tebow in mechanics and has better physical abilities than Colt McCoy.

7. Vince Oghobaase, DT, Duke
Oghobaase is a monstrous DT who can play both as a 4-3 DT or a 3-4 DE. He would fit perfectly in the Jags scheme if Mel Tucker is kept for another season.
