2012 NFL Draft

SB Nation's Rookie FanChat, A Chance To Interview A Top Draft Pick From Your Favorite NFL Team

As announced on Thursday, SB Nation is a proud media partner of the NFLPA's Rookie Premiere next week in Los Angeles. We'll be there, with video cameras in hand, to follow this year's crop of rookies around for a few days.

But perhaps most important to you, the NFL fan, is the chance to interview the top draft pick from your favorite team! SB Nation and the NFLPA Rookie Premiere are excited to announce the Rookie FanChat, a contest in which the winner gets to Skype with their team's top rookie. And that's not all -- the winner also gets an NFL Rookie Premiere helmet singed by their team's top draft pick!

Enter the SB Nation Rookie FanChat contest with three easy steps:

  1. Like SB Nation on Facebook
  2. Follow SB Nation on Twitter
  3. Tell us in the comments of this post: If you had just one question to ask your NFL team's top draft pick (Justin Blackmon), what would you ask him?

The winner, selected on Wednesday, May 16th, will have the chance to Skype for 15 minutes with their team's top draft pick on Friday, May 18, between 1:00-4:00 p.m. PST. And there's even a prize for second -- an autographed football AND a Rookie Premiere Gift Pack. Enter now for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!

The NFLPA Rookie Premiere is where 35 of the top 2012 NFL Draft picks will make their official professional debut, beginning May 17. In addition to being the first rookie class to wear the new Nike jerseys, the players will participate in events around L.A. in the lead up to their official coming out party. Here's the official schedule of next week's activities, which includes a flag football game with celebrities and former NFL players.

Mike Brown Scouting Report

Photo

One of the tryout players the Jacksonville Jaguars signed on to a free agent deal was Liberty wide receiver Mike Brown. Brown played quarterback for Liberty, but due to his athleticism and ability with the ball in his hand his best bet in the NFL is to make it as a wide receiver. Brown played receiver for the Flames his first two seasons before moving to quarterback, where he passed for over 6,000 yards in his career.

"The toughest thing was learning, then trying to go out and run the routes the way coach had explained them," Brown told John Oehser of Jaguars.com. "I went down there with a mindset of, ‘I don't want to get sent home.' I was going to come down there, leave it all on the table. I felt like I had something to prove."

Brown was getting himself reaclimated with playing the receiver position and noted that receivers coach Jerry Sullivan made things a bit smoother. "He brings up film and says, ‘This is how it's supposed to look. This is going to take work. If everybody could do that, you wouldn't have to practice,' but it's proven to work," Brown said of Sullivan.

I admittedly don't know a whole lot about Brown, but quite a few Liberty fans have e-mailed me about him. After the jump I've attached a highlight video of Brown's.

Justin Blackmon's Expectations

Photo

The Jacksonville Jaguars traded up into the Top 5 of the 2012 NFL Draft to take Oklahoma State wide receiver Justin Blackmon. The moving up to get Blackmon was a bit of a surprise, but drafting him shouldn't have been. The Jaguars had a gaping hole at the wide receiver position, and while I didn't necessarily think he was worth a Top 10 pick, the Jaguars certainly did and made sure to get their man.

The question now will be what can we expect out of Blackmon in his first season with the Jaguars? I'll detail what I will expect out of him and why after the jump, but what will you guys/gals expect out of Blackmon in his first season with the team?

2012 NFL Draft Bust Factor: Justin Blackmon

Photo

With every NFL draft pick there is a certain bust factor, especially when that draft pick is taken in the Top 10, or in the case of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Justin Blackmon, in the Top 5. Wide receivers in general tend to have a high bust rate, but that's not necessarily all the receivers fault. It's a position that's heavily reliant on another player to be productive, which is why so many wide receivers are kind of crazy (I think).

Over at SB Nation, Ryan Van Bibber took a look at some of the players taken in the first round who could have a high bust factor based on their skill set and the team that they went to.

Kendrick Adams Scouting Report

Photo

Throughout the week I'm going to look at a couple of the Jaguars draft picks and/or undrafted free agents and try to get a local perspective on the players. By local, I mean getting a scouting report from the other bloggers on the SB Nation network who have watched and covered these players during their tenure in college.

The next player I wanted to highlight is LSU defensive end Kendrick Adams. Adams has gotten quite a bit of hype similar to Michael Brewster as a "steal" in undrafted free agency, but you always have to consider why a player went undrafted. I asked Paul Crewe of SB Nation's LSU blog And The Valley Shook about Adams.

Michael Brewster Scouting Report

Throughout the day I'm going to look at a couple of the Jaguars draft picks and/or undrafted free agents and try to get a local perspective on the players. By local, I mean getting a scouting report from the other bloggers on the SB Nation network who have watched and covered these players during their tenure in college. The next player we're going to high light is undrafted free agent Michael Brewster out of Ohio State.

Brewster is a player that I think can be an eventual starter and was quite surprised he went undrafted. Many felt he'd have been one of the top centers in last year's class, but opted to return for his senior year of school and struggled a bit. Luke Zimmerman from SB Nation's new Ohio State blog Land-Grant Holy Land gives us a scouting report on Brewster.

Jarrett Boykin Scouting Report

Throughout the day I'm going to look at a couple of the Jaguars draft picks and/or undrafted free agents and try to get a local perspective on the players. By local, I mean getting a scouting report from the other bloggers on the SB Nation network who have watched and covered these players during their tenure in college.

The Jacksonville Jaguars signed undrafted free agent wide receiver Jarrett Boykin out of Virginia Tech over the weekend, who I think has a solid chance to make the Jaguars final roster. Boykin is a bigger receiver at 6'2 and 217 pounds, which is something the Jaguars are currently lacking. Boykin is the next rookie for the Jaguars that we're going to spot light a little bit and I've employed the services of Josh Parcell from SB Nation's Virginia Tech blog Gobbler Country to giving us a little scouting report on Boykin.
