Jacksonville Jaguars Fantasy Football

Jaguars Fantasy Sleeper: Maurice Jones-Drew

Photo

Boy this post is looking mighty repetitive, but when your team really only has one viable offensive threat, that's going to be the only real fantasy option. Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew currently leads the NFL in rushing yardage and looks to add to that total against the Tennessee Titans today. In the first match up of the season, Jones-Drew picked up 96 yards on 24 carries, but only carried the ball twice in the fourth quarter. Despite facing loaded fronts all season, he's still averaging 4.5 yards per carry and 92 yards per game.

If you're playing a fantasy football game this weekend, you're either in your leagues finals or semi-finals and Jones-Drew should be in your starting line up. The Titans defense isn't what it used to be, ranked near the bottom of the NFL in rush defense. On the season, the Titans are giving up nearly 130 rushing yards per game and make no mistake the Jaguars are going to continue to ride Jones-Drew on offense.

Jaguars Fantasy Sleeper: Maurice Jones-Drew

Photo

As I note every week, the Jacksonville Jaguars don't have many fantasy football options on offense. When I say "don't have many," I mean they have only one, running back Maurice Jones-Drew. Currently, Jones-Drew leads the NFL in rushing with 1,137 rushing yards at 4.5 yards per carry and five rushing touchdowns. Adam covered earlier in the week just how impressive that is for Jones-Drew, especially considering what he's facing defensively.

Teams load up the box and still can't stop him. His yards per carry is what's really impressive to me, because his long runs have been few and far between this season, so averaging 4.5 yards per carry with only 7 runs of 20 yards or more means he's literally getting it in 4-5 yard chunks with nearly every carry. This week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he'll be facing a rush defense that is giving up an average of 141.7 yards per game rushing. Expect Jones-Drew to get plenty of touches, as usual.

Jaguars Fantasy Sleeper: Jarett Dillard

The Jacksonville Jaguars don't have very many fantasy sleepers, as we've noted every Saturday when I write this. On Monday Night Football against the San Diego Chargers however, I do think the Jaguars do have a good fantasy football sleeper. Wide receiver Jarett Dillard is expected to start in place of recently released Jason Hill (who cleared waivers). Dillard has been a fan favorite for a while, but has battle injuries that have kept him off the football field.

Dillard has played in spurts throughout the season, but after the bye week his playtime increased quite a bit. Since the bye week, Dillard has caught 8 passes for 89 yards and a touchdown. The running joke is that all Dillard does is get open and catch the football, which isn't really a joke but a truism. Dillard isn't very fast, but he runs precise routes and finds himself open in holes in zone defense. He also has excellent hands with long arms and a great vertical leap. I would expect Dillard to get plenty of looks with his increased play time, especially considering his tendency to run himself open.

3 People You Need To Pick Up Right Now: Fantasy Football

Pick Up Now

1. Jason Avant - Jason saw a good amount of targets (14) Sunday against the New England Patriots and had a great game with 110 receiving yards and one touchdown. Avant was Philadelphia's top receiver, but it took 48 Vince Young pass attempts for him to get those numbers. Avant could be worth a look in some deep leagues due to the uncertainty at receiver in Philadelphia. Jeremy Maclin (shoulder/hamstring) remains banged up and DeSean Jackson was benched late Sunday for performance reasons.

Consider The Following

1. Ben Obomanu - Surprising right? At various points this year, while Sidney Rice and Mike Williams were out with injuries he did some things, but hasn't done a whole lot on the season as a whole (28 receptions, 295 yards). He should see more targets now, though. Still has tough competition against Doug Baldwin, the number one WR on the Seahawks.

2. Brent Celek - Celek caught five passes for 75 yards (six targets) against New England on Sunday. Celek continues to play exceptional well and puts up solid point week after week. He has 309 yards and two touchdowns on 33 catches in his last six games.

Jaguars Fantasy Sleeper: Marcedes Lewis

Photo

The Jacksonville Jaguars don't have many fantasy football stalwarts outside of running back Maurice Jones-Drew. The Jaguars defense for the past few weeks was a good fantasy play, but it's been ripped apart with injuries in the past two weeks. One offensive player who finally emerged last week against the Cleveland Browns however, was tight end Marcedes Lewis. It was something many Jaguars fans had been waiting for all season long and something fantasy owners have likely given up on, so it's possible he's available in most leagues.

On the season, Lewis has just 23 receptions for 234 yards, which is on pace for his lowest season output since his rookie year when he dealt with a high ankle sprain for half the season. Lewis and rookie quarterback Blaine Gabbert were able to get into a rhythm last week, with Lewis hauling in 7 receptions for 64 yards. He and Gabbert had such a rapport, that late in the game it was obvious the Browns adjusted their defense to take Lewis out of the game. Lewis can provide a nice security blanket for the rookie since his seeming case of the dropsies is potentially over. If I'm Dirk Koetter, I game plan to feed the football to Lewis.

Who You Need to Pick up off the Waivers Right Now: Fantasy Football

MIAMI, FL - NOVEMBER 13: Anthony Fasano #80 of the Miami Dolphins runs with the ball and eludes the tackle of DeAngelo Hall #23 of the Washington Redskins on November 13, 2011 at Sun Life Stadium in Miami, Florida. (Photo by Joel Auerbach/Getty Images)

Pick Up Now

1. Anthony Fasano - If you're in a slump like me and don't have a number one tight end to put up the big numbers when you need him to, Anthony's your guy. In the past three weeks Fasano has had 106 receiving yards with three touchdowns. He is certainly no Jimmy Graham or Rob Gronkowski, but he will do just fine against the Cowboys.

2. Nate Burleson - If you are desperate in the slot, Burleson might be a good pick up. Burleson finished with 63 yards  and one touchdown last week and could possibly be a valuable sleeper and a deep threat against the Packers.

3. Laurent Robinson - This is a guy is a must pick up this week after his last four weeks. His excellent stats of 242 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns over the four week period would make you think he was an all-pro WR. Especially, today going against the 16 ranked defense of the Miami Dolphins, Robinson should have a big game.

4. Dan Bailey - He should do great against the Dolphins as well, with a lot of extra points or some field goals. He's quickly becoming one of the top kickers in the NFL.

5. Alex Smith - Smith found his stride last week with 263 passing yards, two touchdowns, and only one interception as well as a nice 17 yards rushing. Going against the top ranked Baltimore Ravens defense will be a challenge but he will not go down without a fight.

Start'em Sit'em Week 12

ORCHARD PARK, NY - OCTOBER 10: Josh Scobee #10 of the Jacksonville Jaguars kicks a field goal agaisnt the Buffalo Bills at Ralph Wilson Stadium on October 10, 2010 in Orchard Park, New York. (Photo by Rick Stewart/Getty Images)

Must start of the week is Drew Brees vs. NYG

Quarterbacks Start'em
1. Tom Brady- Brady and the Patriots finally got it going in week 11 in Monday Night Football against the Chiefs. Expect them to carry that stride on the road against PHI.

2. Eli Manning- Manning is coming back from a disappointing home loss against PHI, but this week is going to be a different story against the Saints

3. Tony RomoRomo has been putting up solid points in the past few weeks and is going to have another great week against MIA.

Quarterback Sit'em

1.Philip RiversRivers has been doing awful in the fantasy world and don't expect anything different this week against the electrifying Broncos.

2.Mark Sanchez- Definitely not a highly rated quarterback this year and going against the must win Bills it will be a challenge.

Jaguars Fantasy Sleeper: Jaguars Defense

Photo

The Jacksonville Jaguars don't have much in regards to fantasy football sleepers. Typically the only fantasy mainstay for the Jaguars is running back Maurice Jones-Drew. There is another fantasy play that has become a very good one as of late, and that's the Jaguars defensive unit. Last week against the Colts, the Jaguars defense forced three turnovers and sacked the quarterback five times.

Now, that's not to say this week against the Cleveland Browns it will be a repeat performance, but they're once again taking on a struggling offense that will likely be playing very one-dimensional. The Browns could be without their top two running backs, Peyton Hillis is out for sure, and have been passing the ball a lot the past few weeks. The Jaguars did lose Rashean Mathis for the season, but against the Browns wide receivers William Middleton should just do fine. If you're in need of a defense this week, the Jaguars defense should do just fine.
