Great News Jaguar Fans! Our Depth at Defense End, which plaged me througout all of draft day, has finally been addressed! Bobby McCray signed his tender and eliminated the threat of a training camp holdout. Bobby had a great season last year and deserves a chance to get a fat contract, but that year simply could not be 2007. He deiced that he'd rather make 1.85 million rather than $480,000 and I couldn't be happier.
All through draft day I'm thinking "we need a DE", all through free agency I said "we need a DE". I honestly thought that Bobby was gonna hold out and Hayward would be injured and Paul Spicer would be our only DE of note. Now it looks like the D-Line is going to be at nearly full strength!
I can't possibly tell you how elated I am about this right now. I dare anyone to identify a single legitimate hole in our defense!
In other good news, we've had more rookies sign their contracts. 4th Round Punter Adam Podlish signed his contact, terms unknown. Other players that have signed include fourth-round defensive end Brian Smith, fifth-round safety Josh Gattis and fifth-round guard Uche Nwaneri. Now, we should remember that second day picks are far easier to sign because the slotting is less important. I'd be surprised to see Reggie Nelson, Justin Durant, and Mike Walker sign up until we see more 1st, 2nd and 3rd round pics sign their contracts.
All these signings remind me of the Coughlin days where it seemed that he'd have the whole rookie class under contract by June 15th, because he had no time for holdouts and all that garbage.
Anyhow, don't forget to follow up with the Small Market Roundtable over at Music City and keep checking our site for my analysis of Charles Sharon!
