The Jaguars did the inevitable and placed Eben Britton on injured reserve after he tore his labrum Sunday against the Chiefs.
Filling the roster spot will be 5th year offensive tackle Erik Pears. The 6'8, 305 pound giant played college football at Colorado State, went undrafted and signed with the Broncos in 2005. During the 2006 and 2007 season he played in all 32 games, starting 26 for the Broncos. Of those 26 games, 10 were at left tackle and 16 were at right tackle. In 2008 he missed the entire season for the Broncos with an appendectomy that kept him on the reserve/non-football injury list.
Following 2008, Pears was signed by the Raiders to a 3 year contract as a restricted free agent. He was undrafted and the Broncos put no tender on him so he essentially became an unrestricted free agent. He played 12 games in 2009 for the Raiders, starting in 4. Twice at left guard and twice at right tackle.
In 2010, he was released in the final cuts by Oakland. He then was resigned and released a la Kennard Cox of last year two more times before getting scooped up by the Jaguars.
