Today the Jacksonville Jaguars announced that they have placed linebacker Freddy Keiaho on injured reserve (concussion) and signed linebacker Alvin Bowen.
Linebacker Freddy Keiaho suffered a concussion and has been sitting out practices for a few days. The Jacksonville Jaguars today placed him on injured reserve. In his place, the Jacksonville Jaguars have signed linebacker Alvin Bowen, who was waived on August 17th.
Bowen was a 5th round pick out of Iowa State in the 2008 NFL draft by the Buffalo Bills. Bowen suffered a knee injury prior to the 2008 season starting and was waived/injured and placed on injured reserve. In the 2009 season, Bowen was released in final cuts and signed to the practice squad, where he remained for only 16 days before being released again. A few days later Bowen was signed to the Washington Redskinspractice squad and brought to their active roster late in November of 2009. He was released after only one season signing with the Seattle Seahawks only to be released later on.
Bowen is likely purely a roster spot addition to have a body at linebacker. The injury to Keiaho however opens up a potential roster spot to an undrafted rookie like Kyle Bosworth, Aaron Morgan, or Jacob Cutrera or potentially a veteran like Teddy Lehman. Keiaho was likely to make the roster for depth as the 5th linebacker and his special teams play.
