In a surprising move that will have players everywhere scrambling to re-read their contracts, Nnamdi Asomugha's contract was voided after only two of the three years were expired. The original deal was 3 years for 45.3 million dollars, but since (quite frankly unreasonable) incentives in his contract were not met, the team had the right to declare him a free agent before they had to pay him the remaining 18+ Million dollars in his contract. Asomugha is a star cornerback for the Raiders and widely known as a shut down corner. There isn't a team in the league that couldn't use a player like him. While the Jaguars are not likely to replace a 30 year old corner (Rashean Mathis) with another 30 year old corner (Asomugha is 29 now), any team would be happy to sign the former Raider. Asomugha's appearance in the free agent market might also allow some of the quality free agents with less name recognition to get overlooked and fall to the Jaguars. The Jaguars have stated that they would like to improve their defense, and the Jaguars are likely to make a play for a quality player at corner or safety this offseason.
