The Jacksonville Jaguars have fired head coach Jack Del Rio, according to Chris Mortensen of ESPN. There was speculation that Del Rio would be fired yesterday, but he continued on with his normal Monday afternoon press conference. Typically, if a team is going to fire a coach, they will bypass that press conference. The Jaguars do have a game on Monday Night however, so their schedule is a bit different than the typical week.
There is no word on who the interim coach will be at the moment. In the past, the speculation would be that it would be either defensive coordinator Mel Tucker or linebackers coach Mark Duffner. I tend to think it will be Mark Duffner, who has head coaching experience. This will allow both Tucker and Koetter to focus on their coordinating duties. We will have more on the story as it develops, including a statement from the team.
Update: According to Tania Ganguli of the Florida Times-Union, Mel Tucker will be the interim head coach.
