News of Jacksonville Jaguars owner Wayne Weaver selling the team this morning, and now we learn who the new owner will be. According to Tania Ganguli of the Florida Times-Union, the team will be sold to the Pakistani born Shahid Khan. Khan owns an automotive parts company called Flex-N-Gate Corp and was in play to buy the St. Louis Rams when they were for sale previously.
Khan is a resident of Illinois and is another self-made multi-millionaire, like Wayne Weaver himself. According to previous reports, the team will remain in Jacksonville. In 2010, Khan had entered into an agreement to buy 60% of the St. Louis Rams, but minority owner Stan Kroenke had the ability to match the offer and he did, ultimately buying the franchise.
The Jaguars have scheduled a noon press conference, where they are expected to announce the sale of the franchise and the firing of head coach Jack Del Rio.
