2011 NFL Draft Profile: Jimmy Smith

Alfie's Player Ranking 16 out of 100
Projected Round: 1

Today continues my countdown to the Top 100 draftable players of the 2011 NFL Draft. We move on to my 16th ranked player, Colorado cornerback Jimmy Smith.

Height: 6-2

Weight: 205lbs

PROS: Excellent size for a cornerback at the NFL and good speed for his size. Very athletic and fluid in coverage. Excellent tackler for a corner who wraps up rather than look for the big hit. Excels in press coverage and does a good job of jamming the receiver at the line of scrimmage. Does a good job of diagnosing between run and pass plays. Attacks the ball in the air and shows good body control.

CONS: Lack of interceptions in his college career is a bit concerning. Needs to get lower in his backpedal.  Can get lost when tracking the ball in the air and ball skills are lacking. Doesn’t play nearly as well in zone coverage than press coverage. Has a lot of off the field red flags including drug issues. Also has some questions on if he wants to be Jimmy Smith the football player rather than just playing football.
