With the 22nd pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Indianapolis Colts select offensive lineman Danny Watkins, Baylor.
The Colts averaged only 93 rushing yards per game in 2010. While the running backs weren't anything spectacular, it was still the fourth worst in the entire league. Add Danny Watkins to the mix in the offensive line and you get a mostly unrecognized name who still had a good, solid career at the college level with the Baylor Bears. While being the top rated guard in the 2001 draft by helmet-haired Mel Kiper, he played a lot of left tackle after last years first round pick, Jason Smith, left for the St. Louis Rams. A former firefighter and hockey player, Danny adds a nasty element and versatility of playing guard and tackle (and even center), thus making for good value. After playing next to Jeff Saturday, he may eventually replace him. Can you imagine this guy playing hockey? He was actually drafted fourth OVERALL in the May 2010 Canadian hockey draft.
Bottom line, we get a great big beast to play multiple positions and become the new lifeblood on the offensive line that needs to protect our golden child, Peyton Manning.
