With the 25th pick in the 2011 NFL draft, the Seattle Seahawks select QB Jake Locker from the University of Washington.
It's simple, really: the Seahawks need a quarterback. Matt Hasselbeck's best years are clearly in the rear view mirror and as a free agent, he might not even be back for the 2011 season. The Charlie Whitehurst experiment of 2010 did not go according to plan. With free agency up in the air given the labor situation, the Seahawks turn to the draft. Newton and Gabbert are long gone. In the second tier of QB we have such prospects as Ryan Mallett, Christian Ponder, and Andy Dalton, but the Seahawks go with the player they feel (or, as their mock GM, I feel) has the most upside of the remaining QB's on the board. The fact that he played his college ball just a few miles from Qwest Field is merely a nice bonus. The Seahawks likely resign Hasselbeck for a one-year contract to mind the fort while the rookie develops.
