Jaguars Top 10 Draft Picks: Rashean Mathis

In the 2003 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars drafted safety Rashean Mathis out Bethune Cookman University. Despite being from a small school, Mathis was relatively known by a lot of the Jacksonville Jaguars fanbase because he was a local product. Mathis was from Jacksonville and attended and played football at Englewood High School where he was a star and All-State caliber player.

As a rookie, Mathis immediately made it on the field as a free safety. Mid-way through his rookie season however, Mathis was moved to the cornerback position and has been a full-time starter at the position since. Mathis has excelled at the position and until recent seasons was known as a ball-hawk, totaling 29 interceptions in his 8 seasons in the NFL. Mathis was named to the 2006 All-Pro team and was one of the starting cornerbacks for the 2007 AFC Pro-Bowl team.

Not bad for a 2nd round pick.
