In the Jacksonville Jaguars first ever draft in 1995 the picked their first ever player in the draft and he wound up being arguably the best player in franchise history, to date. With the second overall pick in the 1995 NFL Draft, the Jaguars selected offensive tackle Tony Boselli out of Southern California. Boselli was a 3-time All Pac-10 and All-American selection in college and was an easy selection for a franchise looking for a building block. Right out of the gate Boselli started at left tackle for the Jaguars and held that position for nearly 7 straight seasons.
During his tenure as the starting left tackle for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Boselli was a 5-time Pro-Bowler and 3-time All-Pro selection. Many will argue he was the best left tackle in the game during his time in the NFL as well. After the 2001 season and a shoulder injury, it was unsure if Tony would ever play in the NFL again. The Jaguars didn't protect him during the 2002 expansion draft and he was claimed by the Houston Texans. Boselli was on the Texans roster for a single season, but he never played a snap on the field because of his shoulder injuries. He ultimately retired after the 2002 season, but he still has a big-time presence in the city of Jacksonville, including heading up "Team Teal".
On October 8th, 2006, Tony Boselli was the first member inducted into the Jaguars "Pride of the Jaguars" ring of honor. His name is now up on the side of the stadium and will soon be joined by some other Jaguars greats. One could also argue that while Boselli's career was short lived in the NFL, he was a Hall of Fame caliber player during his 90 game stint in the league.
