Jaguars Top 10 Draft Busts: Mike Pearson

Former Jacksonville Jaguars first round draft pick Byron Leftwich started off our Top 10 Draft Busts countdown and now we'll move on to a sort of forgetting Jacksonville Jaguar, offensive tackle Mike Pearson. Mike Pearson was selected with the 40th overall draft pick in the second round of the 2002 NFL draft. He was drafted to be able to finally replace the gaping hole left by Tony Boselli after he suffered a shoulder injury that ultimately ended his career.

Mike Pearson was drafted with the hope of being the left tackle of the future for the Jaguars. In his rookie season, he took over the starting left tackle position by Week 6, and held on to it through his rookie season. After struggling some but showing promise in his rookie year, he began the 2003 NFL season as the team's starting left tackle and started all 16 games. Pearson struggled still and was mediocre much of the season, prompting the Jaguars to select a left tackle again in the second round of the 2004 NFL draft. Then rookie Khalif Barnes took over for Pearson after quarterback Byron Leftwich was assaulted in week 4 against the Indianapolis Colts. After that, Mike Pearson started just 2 more games the rest of his career as a Jaguar. He left the Jacksonville Jaguars after the 2005 season and signed with the Miami Dolphins, then was released in training camp. Pearson then moved to the Houston Texans, where he wound up released in December and hasn't been on an NFL roster since. Pearson moved on to play in the Canadian Football League for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers where he started at left tackle for the 2007 season and suffered multiple injuries. He retired from professional football in 2008.
