BCC Community Mock: Browns Select - DE Da'Quan Bowers

With the sixth overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns select defensive end Da'Quan Bowers,  Clemson

Others considered: Blaine Gabbert, QB, and AJ Green, WR

I don't think the Browns are expecting Gabbert to fall to them, but with second year QB Colt McCoy and a need for pass rush, Bowers is a guy they just won't be able to overlook (despite his lack of experience with his hand off the ground). David Bowens had a passable season last year, but he is aging, and Bowers should be able to step in at the starting right outside linebacker spot, allowing Cleveland to utilize Bowens for depth in the linebacker corps. Although there is a risk because of the transition from DE to OLB, his potential to be an explosive pass rusher makes him too tantalizing to pass on.
