BCC Community Mock: Titans Select - QB Blaine Gabbert

With the 8th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Tennessee Titans select Blaine Gabbert, QB of the Missouri Tigers.

With the departure of Jeff Fisher and the pending release or trade of Vince Young, the Titans are finally entering a new era. With an All-Pro running back in Chris Johnson and a stout defense, the Titans have a solid foundation to build from. Not to mention the new head coach Mike Munchak, has been with the organization for 14 years and knows the team like the tiles in front of his toilet.

With both Dareus and Fairley off the board early, the Titans do not think twice about nabbing Gabbert at #8. A potential 1st overall draft pick has essentially dropped in their laps and could be the first actual "steal" of the draft. As of this moment the Titans QB situation looks like this:

Vince Young - Still on the roster due to the CBA falling apart, but once everything is back to normal, look for VY to be dumped by the Titans. A part of me wants to say there is a chance he will stay, due to Bud Adams' bromance with the former Texas Longhorn. But right now, we will stick to what has been stated.

Rusty Smith - 2010 6th round draft pick from Florida Atlantic University. Very raw at the NFL position. Played for an injured Vince Young against the Washington Redskins where he went 3-9, 62 yds., and 1 INT. He started the following game against the Houston Texans where he went 17-31, 138 yds. And threw 3 INT's. The Titans were shutout that day 20-0.

Kerry Collins- 17 year veteran. Started 7 games in 2010. In his contract year this year and is clearly the most serviceable QB on the roster at the moment.

Chris Simms - 9 year veteran. Did not take a snap in 2010. Has had multiple drug arrests recently, likely to be released.

The Titans could also go DE at this pick. Jason Babin is a free agent that I think Tennessee could try to re-sign, but not for too much. Dave Ball had productive year with 7 sacks and Derrick Morgan is set to return from his ACL injury that sidelined his for the entire 2010 season. Robert Quinn was my highest rated DE at this point, but I think the Titans will look to solidify the QB position if Gabbert is still available.
