BCC Community Mock: Cowboys Select - OT Tyron Smith

With the 9th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select.....

Tyron Smith, OT, USC

Ideally I think Dallas would love to have Prince Amukamara fall here, and there's even rumors of possibly trading up to get Patrick Peterson. However, with both of the "elite" corners of the draft gone already in both this mock and likely the actual draft, the Cowboys take their second greatest need by selecting Smith. Dallas has been searching for a dominant tackle to protect Tony Romo's backside for some time now, and that search has seemingly come to the forefront after losing Romo for most of this past season to a severe collarbone injury that came from the business end of a New York Giant. Smith has been a shooting star in just about every pundit's mock draft, in part due to his tremendous off-season workouts and perhaps more so due to the lack of a real "star" offensive tackle in this year's group. The USC pedigree at offensive tackle, also should help with landing Smith here.
