With the 14th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft the St. Louis Rams select Corey Liuget, DT, Illinois
With AJ Green and Julio Jones gone, the Rams must wait on a new weapon for franchise QB Sam Bradford and turn their attention to their defense. Although the defense improved from 31st to 12th (in poinst against) there are still plenty of holes to fill on that side of the ball, and Coach Spagnuolo is a fan of collecting defensive linemen. Corey Liuget gives the Rams a player with great upper body strength and the quickness to "turn the corner" and get to the opposing QB, and with good hands to get himself free from blockers. He also handles the run well, with the quickness to the ball and the awareness (or "football IQ) to get into the backfield. Paired with Fred Robbins, he can give the Rams a formidable middle of the defensive line, and anchor what will be a young and improving defense.
