I know what you're thinking. You're thinking that the Jaguars should be "seriously" considering picking up Plaxico Burress aren't you? Yeah. I knew it. Let me be the voice of something that resembles the cousin of reason. Plaxico Burress won't (and shouldn't) be targeted by the Jaguars.
I know his agent will say that he's football ready, but there's no way this guy is up to speed with the other players on the Jaguars' roster (or any roster for that matter). The fact of the matter is that he's probably out of shape (in NFL terms), and he's an older player. The Jaguars are building a franchise through the draft with some help from free agency, and he's a guy that will demand more money than he's really worth.
The real reason I don't think the Jaguars should be thinking about Burress is because that money and roster spot would be better used on a defensive player (for those of you who don't remember, that's the people that tackle a ballcarrier/prevent the other team from scoring). I know it's been a while time since the Jaguars have had a good defense, but that has to be the goal in 2011. The Jaguars should at least be average in 2011 on the defensive side of the ball.
I'm not saying that Burress can't be an asset for another team, but I don't think he'd be an asset for this team. Now, let's all put this to bed before it ever gets going and enjoy the rest of the summer (even if it is without football news).
