Rookie quarterback Blaine Gabbert met with the media after practice this morning. There's been rumblings already from some fans about the fact that Gabbert's looked pretty good in camp so far while David Garrard has been up and down. We have to remember it's not even a week into training camp, it's a little early to begin that talk.
Gabbert however, does his best to support the incumbent quarterback, like he should. "You guys give Dave a hard time, he's a hell of a quarterback," Gabbert told reporters this morning, via Tania Ganguli's blog post on the Florida Times-Union.
"Being the backup quarterback in the NFL is the easiest job in the world because everybody thinks you're better than the starter and that couldn't be more wrong," Gabbert said today. "That changes real quick when you start playing on the football field."
Still, enough talk about Gabbert's ability has bubbled up that Gabbert felt the need to say at least three times during this morning's press conference that Garrard is the team's starter -- and that Garrard is still better than him.
His other two quotes on the matter were: "Dave's the starting quarterback. He's a heck of a football player. People say he's not, they're wrong."
