Jaguars place Laurent Robinson on IR

The Jacksonville Jaguars have placed wide receiver Laurent Robinson in injured reserve with concussion issues, after the receiver likely suffered his fourth of the season against the Houston Texans.

Troy Taormina-US PRESSWIRE

The Jacksonville Jaguars have placed Laurent Robinson on injured reserve, the team announced on Wednesday. Robinson is believed to have suffered his fourth concussion in a four month span against the Houston Texans when he went up for a pass and came down, banging his head against the turf. Robinson immediately clutched his head on the play, but returned for one more play before the end of the game.

The Jaguars signed Robinson in the 2012 offseason to a five-year, $32.5 million contract with $13.8 million guaranteed.

In training camp, Robinson looked like he was beginning to develop a rapport with Blaine Gabbert as a threat down the field, but came down hard on the sideline and smacked his head on a small sliver of concrete and suffered his first concussion of the year. Robinson then suffered three more through the rest of the season and is now done for the year.

Robinson ended the season with 24 receptions for 252 yards in just seven games, but will now have to think long and hard about his future in the NFL. Suffering four concussion in a four month span can have serious long-term ramifications on a player's health, and it will be much easier for Robinson to now suffer more concussions.
